George Clooney will become an executive board member of a new Swiss energy company.

The new company, which will develop environmentally friendly techniques for car motors, batteries and other devices, is aimed at reducing CO2-emissions in energy consumption.

Clooney will sit on the board alongside Swiss astronaut Claude Nicollier and others, as confirmed by Clooney’s spokesman, Stan Rosenfield to The Associated Press. Details are not yet available as to when the new company, which has yet to be named, will be launched.

George Clooney, a self described ladies man is known for his charming ways and has been linked to a string of gorgeous women, but he is also known for his determined humanitarian efforts and his relationship with another lady – Mother Earth. Clooney has lent his name and support to the ONE campaign, along with friends Matt Damon and Brad Pitt. The initiative fights AIDS and extreme poverty on a global scale. He is also a strong supporter of Save Darfur. His efforts to promote green living through environmentally sound practices has been well regarded by environmentalists globally.

Showing compassion for life and the environment further distinguishes George Clooney from the majority of his peers within the Hollywood film community. Good looks and charm would have been enough for some – but his caring attitude for those in need is golden.

  1. I know that a large number of celebrities support charitable organizations around the world, AND, I know that a large number of celebrities spend varying amounts of money on celebrations also around the world.

I propose that an honest charitable foundation with reasonable overhead costs be set up or identified to administer funds donated by celebrities around the world.

The difference between this foundation and many more would be that this one would operate on funds directly donated by celebrities that are equal to what they spent for a special event.

For instance, if a wedding cost $1,000,000.00, the charitable contribution would be $1,000,000.00.

A birthday party or a wedding or a christening or an engagement party or an Oscar party or any other function with a price tag of over $1,000,000.00 would mean that the person presenting it would donate the same amount of money to the Celebrity Charity Foundation.

Yes, they can afford it because they had enough money to spend the first million, if they can’t afford it, then make the party for a lesser amount of money.

  2. Marguerite,
Celebrities, or anyone else for that matter, should not be compelled to “donate” anything. It’s a free country. If they want to have lavish parties or buy expensive items, then that is their business. My business is whether I chose to go to their movies or buy their products.
If an upper income person–celebrity or otherwise–decides to give to charity, good for them. It’s none of our business if they do or don’t. Most sane people eventually realize that a parties and “stuff” don’t provide any lasting happiness or peace. Even the super rich know this. This is why there are philanthropists.
But please spare us the talk about what other people need to do if you’re not doing it yourself. You sweep your side of the street, I’ll sweep mine. When you’re donating 50% of your income to charity, then we’ll talk. Otherwise to suggest that “they” need to something you’re not willing to do yourself means that you’re a hypocrite, which I’m sure you’re not
