Georgia Horsley, the reigning “Miss England” has been encouraged to put on some weight before competing for the “Miss World” title. The 5′8″ size 4 beauty was told that in order to win on the world stage, she needed to be curvier.

Miss England sat down with Today Show host Meredith Vieira this morning to discuss the dilemma. She stated that she is not too thin but does lack the curves that Miss World contestants usually possess. Horsley says that her athletic, boyish type figure suits her just fine. At 126 pounds, the beauty queen might be considered reed thin because she is tall.

Wanting a shot at the title, Horsley has started to bulk up a bit but is troubled by the possibility that she might pad up the wrong spots. She wouldn’t mind gaining in the chest and hip area but does not want to gain in the abdomen. The dilemma is that the contestants want to look good for the TV camera and the photographers lens. Either medium tends to make the subject look heavier.

Miss England director Angie Beasley said, “Beauty pageants are meant to appeal to women everywhere and Miss World has always championed real woman.”

Horsley is balancing the extra calories with workouts in order to reshape her body. She doesn’t know if the Miss World pageant has made the same request of other contestants and she is not offended by the request. She said she would draw the line at cutting her hair but having to put on a couple of pounds was not a problem.

The Miss World organization is sensitive to the growing problem of anorexic models on the European fashion runways. They have a wholesome image to uphold and believe that they set a tone for women around the globe.

The Miss World pageant will be broadcast from China on December 1.
