Heath Ledger Autopsy Results
A medical examiner for New York City has issued a statement regarding actor Heath Ledger’s autopsy.
Ledger, who had pneumonia at the time of his death, had a bottle of prescription sleeping pills by his bed when he was found in his bedroom in full cardiac arrest.
New York City Medical Examiner spokeswoman Ellen Borakove said “We have to do further testing including toxicology and tissue testing. Neither cause of death or manner of death has been concluded. We expect additional results in 10 days to two weeks.”
Actress Michelle Williams, Ledger’s former girlfriend, was in Sweden when she got the news late Tuesday night. She and the couple’s daughter, two-year-old Matilda Rose, left early Wednesday morning.
Pneumonia + sleeping pills is a very dangerous combination and it seems very likely this was a tragic accident and not an intentional suicide attempt.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Heath Ledger’s family and friends.

Interesting how earlier reports indicated there were other drugs there around him as well, prescription anti-depressants or SSRI’s as well as the sleeping drug Ambien.

Having experience with all of these drugs, I can understand how he might have taken more Ambien to overcome the annoying quality it has of knocking one out cold only to have you wake up several hours later. You don’t get deep good quality sleep.
As for the antidepressants, there is much research on how these drugs can mess with your head. My brief experiences were horrible and withdrawal was horrible. They make you feel worse, and are known to cause suicidal ideation as well as agitation, a condition known as akithesia. If he took these drugs to soothe his soul after his disturbing experience embodying the joker in Batman, these drugs are a rough ride.
I find it interesting that they are now covering up the anti-depressants. Also, it seems like with Anna Nicole Smith’s son, there were more than one being used, ‘a cocktail’ as they call it. This can make symptoms worse and risks. There is no rhyme reason or testing. It’s all ‘try it and see’ and the mental and physical side effects can be horrible and they don’t all just ‘go away’ when you stop these drugs.
For one thing, they have a flattening effect on you, blunting your emotions, your creativity, your sensitivity, memory, everything an artist needs to function both in their work and as human beings. They have a lobotomizing effect on the frontal lobes, and can have brainstem effects like Parkinsonism or TD or tardyve dyskenesia, which even in mild forms can be disfiguring (tics, twitches, etc.) These are not benign drugs.
There is so much invested in people taking these drugs though that it is very suspicious to me that the ‘official’ report is conveniently forgetting the SSRI’s and only focusing on the Ambien. The anti-depressant market brings in billions. Way to sweep negative publicity under the rug guys.
An excellent book I would recommend is the compassionately written ‘Toxic Psychiatry’ by Dr. Peter R. Breggin M.D. Dr. Breggin is a Harvard trained psychiatrist and psychoanalyst who has been something of a Ralph Nader after the FDA, pharmaceutical giants, and the bio-psychatric mindset that proposes dangerous drugs for psycho-spiritual crises. He believes the so called ‘anti-depressants’ do not work from his clinical research and experience, can do harm, and should not be used. I would agree.
A sensitive soul is gone and destroyed by polypharmacy and a biopsychiatric approach to psycho-spiritual crisis that is socially psychopathic and lacking in human empathy. I mourn his loss, and those not famous who have met such a fate anonymously while ohers profited.
Still following this story, I read the Page Six report. http://www.pagesix.com/story/heath+s+antidepressants+and+ambien
Someone left an interesting comment.
“Don’t mix Anti-depressants with Ambien
If the anti-depressants he was on were SSRI (paxil, zoloft, prozac etc) they should NOT be combined with Ambien… Do a search for SSRI on Wikipedia.”
Especially if you take too much Ambien trying to get a decent night’s sleep. Especially if you have pneumonia too. Mamma Mia.
The lesson here, educate yourself on what you are taking before you or someone you love takes it. Don’t mix drugs unless you research they are safe to go together. Some doctors seem to get a head trip every time they use their prescription pad and will load you up with a pile of drugs, sometimes medicating the side effects instead of realizing the patient needs less not more drugs.
Also, The FDA pushes dangerous drugs through all the time, makes billions and then withdraws them, falsifies research, covers things up. Vioxx anyone? The latest is Fosamax hawked by actress Sally Field. It causes something called ‘Dead Jaw Syndrome’ (Google this) and desperate people are lining up to join class action suits. You can’t just mindlessly ‘try it and see’. It can be fatal. Take the time. Say no if you must, and be safe.
Here is an excellent article by Dr. Peter Breggin on anti-depressants.
