Camera man bit it too. You wont hear that though.
It would have cancelled the race-day, and the promoter
needs the cash.

Hi, I am a long time fan of NHRA, and through contacts have met Scott on numerous times. He was a prankster and a man with a smile for every fan. I know that everyone is curious as to what exactly happened, but from one who knows let him rest. Scott was driving until he hit the pole at aprox 270 miles an hour, he met his maker doing what he loved and was taken quickly and that is all that matters. Remember a Champion not a crash. Thank You!! RIP Scott you will be missed!!!!!

Hi, my prayers go out to Scotts family and friends. I saw him race in person in Chicago a couple of years ago when I got his autograph, I can honestly say I have never seen a more dedicated and focased look in someones eyes. I never new him personally, but I can say I looked up to him, For I too have a great love for Drag racing. Anouther "Great" Legend... will be missed.

I am 48 yo and have been attending and watching drag racing since before I could drive. I don't think I have ever seen such a violent crash. It gave me chills. When he first blew the engine it all appeared to be very normal, but when he hit the barrier wall I couldn't believe it. To me it was obvious he had braknig problems as well or he was busy just working to see through the fire. At 300mph he only had a couple of seconds to react. That was a pretty violent, tragic crash. I was watching NHRA on ESPN Sat. when it happened. I was very disappointed when they didn't show the crash. I understand their reasoning, but it is part of the sport, part of the news, part of the event. I wanted to see what kind of crash was that bad. The press in general seems to be avoiding showing it; it only shows up in limited spots today. I guess the press would rather make news then report the real news. I guess they figure I bunch of gear heads couldn't understand it or something....

The only plus I will say here is that if Scott was going to die, he would probably choose going racing rather than some slow painful death. It seems most race car drivers would prefer to die doing what they love. "It's not tragic to die doing something you love"
