Derek Jeter has been named the newest Gillette Champion. He is now among some heavyweight company, joining Roger Federer, Thierry Henry and Tiger Woods as the newest Gillette ambassador.

Gillette called Jeter one of the best known, widely respected and successful athletes competing today. Gillette will begin integrating Jeter into their brand program in North America. According to their website, he was chosen as much for his behavior away from the game as his athletic excellence. Gillette was looking for a new face and wanted someone who is also a champion in his personal life.

The new partnership announcement was made today at The Times Center in New York City. Jeter posed for photographers and said:

“Being a part of the Gillette Champions program is a great honor for me. In baseball, having confidence is essential, and a critical element of confidence is looking and feeling my best.”

The New York Yankees captain and starting shortstop began his major league career in 1996, winning the American League Rookie of the Year. He is an eight time MLB All-Star, has won two Silver Slugger awards and three Gold Glove awards. He has been a World Series Champion four times and holds major league records for career post season hits, singles, at bats, and runs scored.
