Terrence Kiel, the troubled former safety for the San Diego Chargers, died late Friday in a car crash.

Kiel, who played four years in the NFL from 2003-2006, was leaving a party when his 2004 Chevy sedan hit a wall and he was thrown from the car.

The 27-year-old was pinned beneath the hood of the vehicle and was barely breathing when paramedics reached the scene. An air ambulance was called in, but Kiel died en route. He was pronounced dead at 11:28 p.m.

Witnesses said Kiel was driving the wrong way on the road when he crashed. It is not known whether the former NFL player was under the influence of drugs or alcohol until toxicology tests are performed.

The Chargers dropped Kiel from the team after he pleaded guilty in February 2007, to felony and misdemeanor drug charges for shipping codeine-based cough syrup to Texas.

  1. Let his past be the PAST!!!!!!!!
    Who are we to judge?
Let his family and friends grieve without having to continue reading about his past. Don’t you think they’re hurting enough?!!!
If you can’t write anything nice then don’t write anything at all.
I know it’s your job but like the old saying goes
    “Keep Living”.

  3. We were classmates for jr high up until we graduated high school. He was a good friend he always knew how to make you laugh, he was a good person on and off the field and he was also a very talented player. He had some faults but so does everybody else and I remember more good than bad because there was more good than bad but anyway he will be grately and deeply missed i loved him as a person, friend, and football player and for all the judging people out there just remember what the Bible says “Judge not yet ye be judged” God is the only one who has the right to judge because we all answer to him
