Venus Williams, 28, and her sister Serena Williams, 26, played solidly on Day 2 of the U.S. Open Grand Slam event at Arthur Ashe Stadium located in Flushing Meadows Park in Flushing, Queens, New York.

The sisters could end up facing each other in the quarter finals. Venus is the reigning Wimbledon singles champion. Serena is currently the top ranked American female. She lost to her sister in the recent Wimbledon singles finals in straight sets and the sisters are the reigning Wimbledon doubles champions.

On Tuesday, August 26th, Venus, seeded 7th, handily beat her 24 year old Australian opponent Samantha Stosur in the first round 6-2 6-3.

Serena, coming off a gold medal win in doubles, with Venus, at the Beijing Olympics, easily defeated 22 year old Ukrainian athlete Kateryna Bondarenko 6-1 6-4.
