Dallas Mavericks forward Josh Howard was caught disrespecting the National Anthem at a charity event in this YouTube video making it’s rounds on the internet.

‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ is going on. I don’t celebrate this sh**.  I’m black,” Howard is heard saying.

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said that the team had already dealt with Howard at the time of the incident in July.

“That said, we will be going through some advanced communication skill sessions together this training camp,” Cuban said Tuesday. “I have explained to him that cellphone cameras are not your friend and that what you think you said on camera is never what people will hear when it shows up on YouTube or TV.”

No stranger to controversy, Howard was recently arrested in North Carolina for a street race, and has admitted to smoking marijuana.

According to Cuban, “Josh really is a good guy with a great heart. He just doesn’t do a good job of showing that side of himself publicly. We will work on that.”

  1. When the “good white folks” were celebrating their independence from England, Black folks in Amerikkka were still picking cotton and serving up the sexual perversions of white men. White freedom is what the star spangled banner was created to honor…So, Dwight Howard and all conscious Black Folks are well within their right minds to opt out of that Fu’N anthem.

Besides, when was the last time you saw white folks standing and pledging to “Lift Every Voice And Sing” – the Black National Anthem?

  2. If Mr. Howard doesn’t “celebrate that sh*t”, I am sure he could move to another country, keep all of the freedoms he has, and be paid millions upon millions of dollars to play a game. Wait a minute….no he couldn’t.

And to “Black 2 the Mutha Fu’N Bone”…it isn’t called the “White Star Spangled Banner”. There is no mention in the songvof the injustices that happened centuries ago. It is a song that reflects the pride in country that Americans should have. You know, for having a free market system that allows for ungrateful idiots the opportunity to make millions of dollars playing a game.

The ignorance of young athletes is disgusting.

  3. This is America..we have freedom of speech and freedom of expression where we let the KKK spew their filth. I don’t agree with what Howard said but I spent 26 years defending his right to say it. I don’t agree with flag burning either but it is a right and the way things are today, it may be necessary to burn a flag, the Supreme Court even agreed with that!! Howard is young and has still has a lot to learn. It is not easy being a Black man in America. Only in America can a Black man who graduated magna from Havard be unfavorably compared to a white woman who went to 6 or 7 colleges to get a degree. Like Chris Rock said, “I’m not say Howard should have said what he said but I understand”. You calling young athletes ignorant is what is disgusting Otown, get a grip, that is one man who did something YOU consider ignorant. Lay off the Haterade!! Peace.

  4. A disgusting thing to say, but I’ll stand up for his right to say it anyday. That’s what America’s about. As for Mz Newport’s slap at Sarah Palin’s 6-7 colleges, her family was short on money. I am proud of BOTH of their education and degrees.

  5. Sarah Palin didn’t get the affirmative action boost that Obama did–he was a mediocre pot-smoking student in Hawaii and LA before Harvard snapped him up in spite of his shoddy scholasticism. I’m not saying Obama isn’t talented, because he is, but it’s pretty low to pick on Palin when she worked her way up from poverty without any affirmative action boost. Anyway, going to Harvard certainly doesn’t mean you have good ideas–Obama thinks big government is the answer, and it’s NOT. I think Howard’s comments are unfortunately representative of an incredibly ignorant, ungrateful and acrid philosophy that has taken hold of so many young blacks–especially in our inner cities. I know because I have an all-black scout troop in an inner city and it’s incredibly to me the chips these kids have on their shoulders, thinking that they are nothing but victims and that others’ attitudes about them are their destiny–it’s so wrong! It’s made much tougher to free them from that ignorant attitude when they so look up to disrespectful and incredibly ungrateful athletes like Howard. WAKE UP, BLACK AMERICA. How come the Asian-American, Jewish, Indian, and even the Hispanic-American population to a large extent, has largely been able to assimilate and succeed while black Americans still linger in such goverment-sponsored poverty and ignorance? It cannot be entirely explained by racism! It’s time we stopped being so worried about being P.C. and started criticizing aspects of primarily black inner city culture that are ruining our country and black kids’ chances to be respectful, successful, patriotic Americans.
