Joan Prather, 57, is best known for her role on the hit television series Eight Is Enough that aired from 1977-1981.  Prather played the role of David Bradford’s wife Janet McArthur Bradford.  She wound up in jail over the weekend after getting into an altercation with police officers at the Nautica Malibu Triathlon.

Prather was first noticed by Sheriff’s deputies when she drove around police cones and barricades that had been erected to keep vehicles out of the area.  An L.A. County Sheriff attempted to stop her from moving forward and in the process his watch became caught on her car.  She continued driving, dragging him alongside the car until other officers finally got her to stop.

The officer was treated at a nearby hospital for a sprained arm.  The actress was arrested and booked on a charge of felony hit and run.  She was released on $50,000 bail.

Besides Eight Is Enough, Prather also made guest appearances on Happy Days, Sandford and Sons, Love Boat, Fantasy Island and Chips.
