Sean Lennon Reveals John Lennon’s Ugly Side (Photos)

Beatles legend John Lennon evidently didn’t always have such a soft and carefree side.  Son Sean Lennon has opened up in Philip Norman’s new biography John Lennon: The Life which will hit shelves next month.

Sean, who is now 32 years old, remembers as a young child how his father would lose control of his temper and unleash his anger.   He recalled a time when he paid the price for his actions.

“He was teaching me how to cut and eat steak, which was a mystery to me at age 4; how to stick the fork in and cut behind it, and that is how you got a piece in your mouth.

I think that was the night when he got very upset with me, I think because of something I did very cheekily with the steak.  He did wind up yelling at me very, very loudly to the point where it damaged my ear, and I had to go to the hospital.”

Sean, who’s mother is Yoko Ono, also recounted how remorseful his father was after the incident, but doesn’t deny that John had a bad temper.

  1. Sounds to me like he got off light. My old man favored the belt.

  2. Everyone has a temper. Everyone has negative moments with parents. If that’s some of the worst he got then he should count his blessings.
Sounds like someone looking to cash in on daddy’s name to me.

  3. What makes all this fodder for journalism of all styles is that juxtaposed against John Lennon’s enormous impact on the modern culture of music, love and peace and his larger than life legend status even while he was alive is the fact that he had a very real, maybe even average, maybe even almost normal personality in many respects. He lost his temper, yelled, made mistakes he deeply regretted, etc, etc…tell me something new!
