Bruce Springsteen: ‘The Boss’ Lands Super Bowl XLIII Half Time Gig
Bruce Springsteen and his E Street Band will provide the half time entertainment at Super Bowl XLIII in Tampa Bay, Florida on February 1, 2009. The news came this morning from both the NFL and NBC. Last years telecast was viewed by 148 million viewers.
The rock n roll artist is the latest high profile pick to host the prime-time entertainment extravaganza during the most watched television event in the U.S. Previous celebrities have included The Rolling Stones, U2, Paul McCartney and Prince.
Perhaps the most infamous hosts were Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake in 2004. Janet’s wardrobe malfunction sent networks and the FCC reeling. The ensuing lawsuits, which just passed through the Federal Court of Appeals, declared it was much adieu about nothing and the FCC was off base in levying fines on the network.
