Jeff Dubay of KFAN Radio Arrested For Meth Possession

Jeff Puffy Dubay

Jeff Dubay is a sports radio talk show host on KFAN Sports Radio AM 1130 in Minneapolis-St. Paul in Minnesota.   Nicknamed Puffy, he is on air Monday thru Friday 9:00 a.m. to noon. He also hosts Vikings Fan Line with former Viking Mike Morris as well as a gig on Fox Sports Net covering Minnesota Gopher hockey.

During the summer 2008, Dubay took an unexpected leave of absence for ‘personal reasons’, as described by co-host Paul Allen.  No further details were give and he resumed his duties on August 8, 2008.  An educated guess is that Dubay was in a 30 day treatment program.

Turns out Dubay has been stopped twice in September for driving after suspension.  During the first stop, he was also cited for not having proper lighting or proof of insurance.  Those police stops occurred on September 18 and September 30.

It looks like Dubay has gotten himself into another bit of trouble.    Puffy Dubay was stopped by police in Maplewood, Minnesota at 11:00 p.m. on October 15, 2008 for driving with a suspended license – third time.  The officer found what appeared to be a bag with a controlled substance, which they observed Dubay to have thrown out the window during the police stop.  They also found a crack pipe in Dubay’s car.

Dubay told the officer that a drug dealer had borrowed his car and left the crack cocaine and pipe in his car.  He has since changed his story.  His latest version is that he was paying off a $200 drug debt with the goods.  He also reportedly told the officer that this will “ruin his life”.

On Monday’s show, Paul Allen said: “We wish peace and positivity for our friend and look forward to the day that we can chat again.”

UPDATE October 23, 2008:  Jeff Dubay has been charged by Maplewood Police with crack cocaine possession based upon the test results of the white powder that was discovered in his car on October 15, 2008.  The fifth degree offense is a felony.  If convicted he could be sentenced to 5 years in jail, fined $10,000 or both.

The radio personality reports through his lawyer that he is happy to have the truth come out about the cocaine because initial reports said the substance was methamphetamine – as was reported by this site.

Dubay’s court hearing is scheduled for November 24th.  He is to report to Ramsey County Law Enforcement Center in St. Paul, Minnesota.

UPDATE October 24, 2008KFAN fired Jeff Dubay on Friday, days after he was officially charged with possession of cocaine by Maplewood police.  KFAN’s PA and Dubay page has been changed to simply Paul Allen.

Clear Channel Minneapolis president Mike Crusham says Dubay is “no longer with the company”.   He had been associated with the KFAN station for 10 years before his dismissal.

  1. I think he was arrested for the possession of a methamphetamine precursor totaling over six grams. Unless I am mistaken your average box of psydophedrene weighs over six grams and is a precursor to methamphetamine. Its possible he illegally obtained something of the such.

Still not a good deal for the old Puff-Puff.

  2. always loved his show with PA, hate to hear that news, wish ya well.

  3. Atheletes get about i dont know 10 chances when it comes to their job. Why was dubay fired so quickly. Way to back up and help a guy out. The show wont be the same without him.You never see a athelete one and done. they are so spoiled. good luck dubay. god bless

  4. Ok, so let me get this straight … Dubay is HAPPY that the record has been set straight and that it was crack cocaine and not meth that they found in his car?

Huh?! I have experience with both drugs. I am sober now, but I’ve done it all and then some in the past. Crack is no better than meth is no better than heroin is no better than alcohol (if you’re an alcoholic).

Methamphetamine is a powerful stimulant, and so is crack cocaine. Meth is no more dangerous or despicable than crack – they will both destroy your health and your life with equal efficiency.

Whatever Dubay’s problem is, I hope he gets help for it, gets sober, and maybe he can make a career comeback someday. If he can manage that his story will be inspirational instead of deplorable.

  5. That headline is ridiculously misleading.. I can’t believe it hasn’t been changed. No credibility here whatsoever. He was never charged with meth possession. Meth precursor isn’t meth. And it was CRACK! not meth! He’s a CRACKHEAD not a METHMOUTH

    GET IT RIGHT!
