Waubonsie Valley High School Lockdown

Naperville Police were on scene at Waubonsie High School

Waubonsie Valley High School on Eola Road in Aurora, Illinois was locked down on Wednesday morning after there were reports of a weapon on campus.  The search lasted for hours and ended just before 12:30 p.m.  One person was taken into custody and a BB gun was confiscated.

News of the lockdown was posted on the school’s website and sent to parents via phone calls and e-mails by Principal Kristine Marchiando.  It said, “As a precaution, I have locked down the school this morning while the school administration and the police investigate a potential threat.  I want to stress this measure is a safety precaution only and all of our students and staff are safe.  We will provide an update as soon as we have more information.”

According to Aurora Police Lt. Paul Nelson, a student told officials that he saw two students with a pistol.  Another student reported a scrawled message on a stairwell wall on Tuesday that said, “Bomb 12/10.”  It is not known yet whether there is a connection between the pistol and the threat.

After the search ended, the principal wrote the following e-mail to parents: “We owe a great deal of thanks to some very brave students that reported what looked like a hand gun.  A complete search was done and we found a look-alike weapon, also known as an air pistol.  It was not fired, nor was anyone hurt.”

The students have all returned for their afternoon classes in what is being described as a normal p.m. schedule.

  1. i was in the school during the lockdown.
we had the police come into ever class room they did a body search and seached all of the bags in our room. we were still put on high lock down. which then brought in the attack dogs. we were on lock down for over five hours but i think the people outside where more worried then the people inside

  2. I was at the gold campus for the lockdown. We were told nothing at all except that there was a lockdown at the other campus as well. Someone in my class got a reply to a text message that said “Some 1 has a gun, we r on l.d.”
we all started texting our parents and siblings at the other campus. We were never told anything until our lockdown was over….which was 2 and 1/2 hours….
i hated how we didn’t know anything about our siblings.

  3. Damn my hometown is getting rougher. National news like this isn’t good. Be real and don’t play with guns. It’s all fun and games until someone loses a life, even with a fake one.

  4. The lock down at the gold campus was scary. The intercom came on and it was not cheerful and energetic like it usually is. All they did was tell us we were on lock down because the green was too. Everyone started texting their parents and calling their friends. I was glad i wasn’t in the green though. At the gold, girls were crying, teachers were worried, and parents were scared. My mom even came up to the school, but they wouldn’t let her in. After the lock down, i stayed at school for the rest of the day but i was a bit scared. My english teacher was talking to us and he said “it is a shame what started with comumbine is still happening now”. I ageree.

Recently, there was a softer lock down for a drug search. I’m tired of this kind of stuff.
