James Joseph Cialella took his son to the movies on Christmas Day.  The 29 year old from Philadelphia got angry at a family that was talking during a showing of the new Brad Pitt fantasy drama The Curious Case of Benjamin Button at Riverview Movie Theatre.  Unfortunately, it ended badly for both families.

Cialella first told the chatting family to be quiet and then entered into a full blown argument in a theater full of people trying to follow the movie plot.  He threw popcorn at the son and then pulled a Kel-Tec .380-caliber handgun and shot the father.

Police took Cialella into custody and charged him with attempted murder, aggravated assault and weapons violations according to a police report.

The unnamed victim was taken to Jefferson Hospital with a gunshot wound to his left arm.

  1. Please name the victim… He had it coming.
Thank you James Joseph Cialella for finally giving one of those rude selfish SOBs what they deserve.

  2. This guy is a scumbag, and should be publicly executed. If I ever see him, I am going to spit in his face.

  3. if your gonna talk, stay home, don’t even think about taking kids to an adult movie.

  4. I jumped a talkative bunch of movie goers before also, and hightailed out with no problems, This guy had the balls to go furthur. Nice going

  5. Lesson learned… if you’re in a movie theater, KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT! It doesn’t matter what movie it is, adult, kid, whatever…. KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT, TURN OFF YOUR F^*#ING CELL PHONE, and KEEP QUIET!!!! Any questions?

  6. [...] Moviegoer: Crazy Man at Benjamin Buttons – Wow, this guy seriously wants it quiet while he’s watching shallow, overdone dramatic [...]

  7. You REALLY think talking in a movie theater is something worth ending a human life over?????
Why was this moron carrying a gun into a cinema?????
    Premeditated, hmmm????
What kind of lesson is he teaching his son?????
Re: Joseph Cialella, hang him by the neck until he is dead.

  8. I also really hate guys talking at the movies. Maybe the movie theater is also to blame for allowing this to escalate. The shooting guy will get to pay for this (although attempted murder a little bit too much; obviously he could have done it, but it’s more like a passionate thing where things got out of control), but the talking guy is a real SOB and he should be also held accountable. Somebody else, totally not involved in this, could have gotten hurt.

  9. I commend this man for doing what is right. Anyone who is so rude and presumptuous to assume that his need to talk rises above everyone else’s right to watch a movie should be shot. Thin the gene pool please – too many idiots reproducing.

  10. To all parents with children: when someone tell you your family is noisy, your family is really noisy. It’s unbearable to surrounding people. The best way is to apologize and correct your children, not to confront the requesters.
This kind confrontation is too risky; not every one want to take that risk. Most of us just walking away from noisy family with children. We don’t want end up in jail, hospital or being killed by telling the father that his children were so misbehaved in public. Myself, I just walk away. Children are children; they will outgrow it. Speech of steel is not an answer. We all need to go back home to night in our own beds, our own families.

  11. HAHAHAHAHA

That is the best story i’ve ever heard! I read a more detailed article about this, and the best part is that after Cialella shot the guy, he sat back down in his seat to watch the rest of the movie! F**king awesome

  12. If you are the rude one talking in a theater. Don’t argue with anyone that asks you to be quit. Just shut up. He did not deserve to get shot but the situation could have been avoided if he would have shown consideration for others.

  13. Judging by the news story, and the comments here that follow, I am glad I don’t go to the movies at all.

There’s not a damn thing I need to see in a crowd, that I can’t wait a few months to see on DVD.

In my house: The kids are quiet, the snacks are free, and I have a strict zero-gun policy, even during PPV sporting events… don’t even get me started on the A-holes that attend those events at “sportsbars”!

  14. I wish I could be on that jury I would vote not guilty on all charges no matter what the prosecutor spat out. Forget that talking family, this guy did what all of us want to do when there is a noisy group of people talking during a movie playing in a theatre. NOT GUILTY on all counts.

  15. So.
Shooting a guy , it’s way too extreme.
Same as those people that go around asking for death penalty. Those are two of the many dumb things that the civilized societis usually use to make fun of the lovely U.S.A.

That said, the base message still stands :
You go in a movie theatre, you watch the movie AND STAY THE H**L SILENT.
He asked them to keep it down first. And even then they kept it up. The h**l.
He shouldve called for staff to remove the idiots from the room.
    But hei, it’s U.S.A.
You need a gun to protect yourself from people who bought a gun in the same place you bought it.
And if that isnt STUPID, i guess shooting someone avoiding the face is something along the lines of “being polite”
