Sarah Palin's niece just made a quick bundle of cash by selling a pair of size 7.5 red Naughty Monkey Double-Dare heels on eBay.  The first time seller became an eBay member on January 19th and saw her first auction end successfully on January 27, 2009.  She made a cool $2,025 plus $11.95 for shipping and handling.

The Palin relative did not provide her name but does share a recent photo taken with her aunt for the purpose of tying the auction to the governor of Alaska.  Other photos showed Palin at several events, wearing the shoes.  The photos were autographed and the pen that the governor used also goes to the winning bidder.  Palin's niece has also offered the auction winner the option of having Palin sign the shoes.

The high heeled pumps were purchased by Palin for around $100 from Shoefly & Hudson in Juneau, Alaska.  The seller was quick to reiterate that they were not purchased by the RNC, lest anyone jump to the wrong conclusion.  Aunt Sarah reportedly gave the shoes to her niece and appears to have happily gone along with the eBay sale.

The auction starting price was $500.  The governor's high heels garnered 14 bids from seven bidders.  The winner skillfully placed a single bid in the final seconds to beat out the previous leader by $25.  The winner has been an active eBay buyer and seller, with a total of 189 transactions.

ed mcmahon

It looks like Ed McMahon has figured out a way to try and get a grip on his financial woes.  The late Johnny Carson's sidekick has struck a deal with Cash4Gold and will be featured in their commercial which will be televised during Super Bowl XLIII.

The TV personality has admitted to People magazine that he has sold stuff around his home for cash.  This meshes nicely with Cash4Gold, which buys jewelery and other precious metal objects.

"I has a lot of old wedding bands.  Let's say they had "mixed" memories associated with them."

McMahon isn't the only celeb that will appear in the commercial.  Expect to see MC Hammer in the commercial spot.  The ad was shot at McMahon's Beverly Hills home.  He still faces possible foreclosure but Ed says that he and his wife Pam are optimistic about the future of the home and believe that whatever happens will be for the best.

Britney Spears' father Jamie Spears, who is the conservator for his daughter and her business affairs, has gone back to court to obtain restraining orders against the singer's former manager Sam Lutfi, her former paparazzi boyfriend Adnan Ghalib and the lawyer who previously tried to fight the conservatorship, Jon Eardley.

According to Los Angeles Superior Court papers, the three men are not able to come within 250 years of Britney, her property or family members.

Jamie, after reviewing his daughter's cellphone records, discovered that Lutfi and Ghalib were contacting Britney via numerous cellphone calls and text messages.   Jamie believes that Britney was 'innocently' giving them information regarding her schedule.  They, in turn, were tipping off the paparazzi for financial gain.

Lutfi has apparently conveyed to Britney, through her hairdresser in late December, that he is close to breaking the conservatorship bond that has kept Britney under her father's control.    The elder Spears, suspecting that Eardley and Lutfi are again working together in this regard, included the lawyer in his court request for retraining orders.

Serena Williams is ranked No. 1 after battering Russian third seed Dinara Safina in straight sets 6-0, 6-3 on Saturday night at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Australia.  This is the tennis star's 10th Grand Slam win.  She has been particularly skillful at the Aussie Open event, winning the title in 2003, 2005, 2007 and now 2009.

Williams totally dominated and has won back to back majors.  She took top honors at the U.S. Open championship in September.  The 27 year old said, "I absolutely, clearly, love playing here.  You guys root for me so much.  I don't get that everywhere.  So thank you so much."

Serena is the fifth woman to win four or more Australian titles.  She is the all-time money winner in women's sports, having overtaken Annika Sorenstam.  Williams earned $1.3 million for her win in Australia, bringing her career earnings to a tidy $23.5 million.  Well done Serena.

The sister duo of Serena and Venus Williams also took the doubles title after beating Ai Sugiyama and Daniela Hantuchova in the finals.

earthquake location photo 2

A 4.5 magnitude earthquake shook the Puget Sound area of Washington state early Friday morning, January 30, 2009 according to the USGS.  The good news is that surrounding infrastructure seems to have weathered the seismic event without damage.

The quake, at a depth of 36 miles, occurred at 5:25 a.m. and was centered 14 miles northwest of Seattle near Kingston in Kitsap County.

According to DOT spokeswoman Kristy Van Ness, crews remain in the field doing follow-up checks of bridges and other support structures.  Initial examinations were made with flashlights in the dark, with no reports of damage.

The University of Washington is reporting it as a 4.5 quake on the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network.   It was felt throughout the Puget Sound area in Western Washington.  There were reports that the quake was felt in Victoria, British Columbia, 71 miles to the north.

Seismic Network director John Vidale said the quake was from the same general source as the 6.8 magnitude Nisqually earthquake of Feb. 28, 2001.   That quake disrupted operations at SeaTac International Airport, and damaged the Capitol building in Olympia as well as the Alaskan Way Viaduct in Seattle.

Small quakes are common in the Pacific Northwest.  This morning's quake was the largest in Washington since October 2006.

amy winehouse robbed

Amy Winehouse seemingly can't escape drama in her life.  The troubled songstress, who is currently vacationing in St. Lucia, was robbed early Thursday morning.

Burglars busted down the door of Winehouse's north London apartment and made off with recording equipment and several valuable guitars before police were alerted by a neighbor around 4:00 a.m.

According to her rep, "Amy is upset, of course. But everything can be replaced."

"From her point of view, her favorite guitar is with her in St. Lucia. It was a special present, given her by Universal for winning the Grammy awards last year," he said.

No arrests have been made.

Winehouse, who has been on an extended vacation on the Caribbean island, reportedly saved a woman from drowning last week, and earlier this month declared that she will not allow incarcerated husband Blake Fielder-Civil to divorce her.

 cecil suwal leaves court

Cecil Suwal, the 24-year-old madam who ran the prostitution ring that brought down Eliot Spitzer, has been sentenced to six months in prison.

The college student pleaded for mercy on Thursday, saying, "It is my aim to prevent others, especially young girls, from making the kind of mistakes that I have made."

In June, a tearful Suwal pleaded guilty to money laundering, conspiracy and conspiracy to promote prostitution.

Suwal ran the Emporerors Club VIP, a $5,500-an-hour escort service, with 63-year-old Mark Brener, where they booked call girls across the globe.

Defense attorney Alberto A. Ebanks claims Brener's psychological domination left Suwal incapable of making independent decisions, saying she even had a tattoo on her body reading "property of Mark Brener."

Suwal met Brener at age 18 when she answered a seemingly innocuous job posting by Brener in a weekly New York paper.

Suwal, a prep-school grad on break from studying advertising at the University of Miami at the time, began a sexual relationship with the then 57-year-old Brener, becoming "his paramour, his companion and ultimately his assistant" at the Emperors Club VIP.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel Stein acknowledged that "certain aspects of the defendant's personal history and characteristics mitigate the need for punishment in a compelling way."

"Cecil Suwal devoted nearly four years of her life to promoting prostitution and helping herself and her co-conspirators profit from that activity," Stein wrote in a sentencing memorandum. "During that time, Suwal did no legitimate work and supported herself entirely through crime."

Suwal has since attended college, been involved with charity work, had steady appropriate employment and volunteered for a forensic psychological evaluation.

While the federal judge credited Suwal for going to "extraordinary lengths to put her life back on track," he said it could not erase the fact that she played a central role in the escort service.
