Joanna Pacitti: American Idol 8 (Photos, Video)
Joanna Pacitti, American Idol 8 hopeful, grew up in a blue-collar neighborhood in Philly. She would sing, beginning at age 5, for the customers in her father’s barbershop and would buy candy with the tips she earned.
It wasn’t long before Pacitti appeared on local TV talent shows and appeared in 106 performances of the national tour of Annie. Able to sing any style thrown at her, she saved her money and headed for California. She hooked up with Ron Fair, who molded the career of Christina Aguilera.
At the tender age of 16, she was signed by A&M Records and took the next year to hone her sound. During this interval, she was the subject of a two-hour episode on MTV’s True Life documentary series. Pacitti said, “They followed me around for a year to show what really goes into making a record because it’s so tough”.
Pacitti launched an album under Geffen Records, This Crazy Life, which she describes as all about breaking free, taking chances, getting hurt and letting go.
Joanna, 24, has moved on and severed ties with Geffen and has now set her sights on becoming the next American Idol. She auditioned in Louisville, Kentucky and received her ‘golden ticket’ to Hollywood. The episode appeared on AI last night, January 21, 2009. She appears to be a contender.
Check out our photo gallery below and Pacitti’s music video Let It Slide. Also as Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, singing Somewhere Over The Rainbow at age 16.

You know, I liked her from the beginning, I think she’s very talented and beautiful – but I’ve been hearing people saying she should not be on American Idol b/c she already had her chances in the music industry.
I thought people will vote for her, but most of them say she shouldn’t be there… What do you think?
I think it is ok for her to be on IDol- Everyone deserves a second chance in life! If you are a millionaire and win the lottery should you not accept it? if she has the talent why not go for it – she has the BEAUTY and she is from Philly!! You go and get it Joanna- Be strong and confident ! Be nice to everyone and show them why you are there!!!
My family wishes you the best of luck
you said it yourself, she’s very talented, this is a talent competition, let the best person win. I think she has a great voice, I would buy her music right now.
it seems to me like the judges favoring the better looking contestants this season
I think Idol should be about talent- so what if she has had her shot at fame and lost it, bottom line this girl can sing, she has personality, the looks, and an amazing voice. That is what idol is about- the whole package they are looking for an American Idol after all. Also who better to have win the season and have ppl look up to then someone who kept fighting for her dream and triumphed. I would definately want my kids to look up to her, more than the ditsy bikini girl! Also If she sucked at singing and audititioned ppl wouldn’t even be having an issue about it. The ones who have a hissy about her getting on Idol are the jealous ones. I am happy that she’s made it this far and I will definately be hoping she continues to “wow” us:) Good luck Joanna!
I think she took someone else’s spot who hasn’t had the chances she had. The show is not a reality show. It’s about who you know in the industry. I don’t believe she stood in line like everyone else. Didn’t Paul Abdul produce the Brat’s Movie, hmmm… Joanna’s song was on the soundtrack. Too close to home.
chance? what about 16 of the finals that all had some or more like Kristen mcnamara Nashville star fanbase and a few others look her up she operformed with at least 7 big stars. did videos and a lot more they all deserve 2nd chances This is America the land of oppertunity.
I bought Joanna’s cd and I think she is one of the best female singers I’ve listened to and I don’t think it’s fair that she was disqualified for whatever reason. She deserves a chance to be the next American Idol just like any of the other contestants.
She is a one of a kind person and you don’t find people with her personality and charisma very often, so when you do you have to give them the chance they deserve. She has the ability to rise above and beyond the rest of these contestants.
Why does her past matter anyway, everybody has a past, but nobody wants somebody to use it against them. If she has what it takes then then let her live her dream. She only has one life to live, and she needs to live it to the fullest.
My absolute favorite quote of all time is; “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again”. So Joanna if you don’t succeed this year try again until you make it. Somebody will take notice of how much talent you have and give you the second chance that you deserve. After all it is national television, more than half the world is watching. So never ever give up, and don’t let anybody tell you that you can’t do something. Just keep trying you will succeed.
She is out of tempo on her singing from wizard of ox. The orchestra can’t even follow her. she also misses notes. no wonder she got cut from american idol (from a fellow musician, you have to sing in tune and in tempo to make your audience happy)
Th the person who said she is out of tempo?? how old are you??? 10 You prob cant hear or do not know music. LOL LOL LMAO Go to school today ok. You have something to say on every site about Joanna ,and its always bad soooo it has got to be you are so jealous. Go Joanna keep reaching do not listen to lil girls and boys that are TRYING to be big
