Steve LeVeille Returning to WBZ-AM 1030 Newsradio

Steve LeVeille Returns to WBZ

WBZ Newsradio 1030 announced today that the station has found a way to bring back Steve LeVeille, who had been a talk show host on WBZ 1030 since 1991 before being terminated four weeks ago.

According to WBZ’s website, Steve will return to the airwaves in his old time slot next week.   We posted news of LeVeille’s sudden banishment from the station on January 2, 2009 and we have been bombarded by a multitude of his loyal listeners who were outraged that such a talent was no longer on the air.

Many told us they planned to boycott.   The radio station likely heard from some of those same people.  At any rate, the station has apparently seen the light and is endeavoring to reinstate LeVeille nearly a month after giving him the boot.

Check out the original story with 166 fan comments.   These people made it quite clear they were not happy and they shared that fact with our readers.  LeVeille fans are likely dancing in the streets after hearing the good news.

  2. Welcome back Steve LeVeille and Happy New Year! As we say in Massachusetts, this is wicked good news! I don’t know if we’ll be “dancing in the streets” (it’s been really cold here – and Steve’s show is on at midnite – 5am) but we will be tuning in!

Thank you, Bitten and Bound, for picking up the original story of Steve’s “sudden banishment” from WBZ in Boston. Your site gave us an immediate place to state our outrage – not only that Steve LeVeille had been fired, but the absolute low down way the station went about it. Very interesting to me that Hollywood carried news that Boston media damn near ignored. WBZ was silent about what they did, but they did hear from us.

Steve LeVeille is amazingly good at what he does. I am amused when I hear people talk about who they think a late night radio audience is made up of. This country is way more 24/7 than many people imagine. We were lucky to have someone like Steve locally. His broadcast was intelligent, quirky and so New England. He could discuss major news stories or play a kazoo. If he had worked for a small radio station, we would have felt lucky that we had access to something really different than the nationally syndicated “talk waste” that masquerades as radio, but he didn’t work for a small station. His broadcasts were heard in 38 states, Canada and with streaming, the world. On any given night many of his callers were not local. When you hear callers from the East Coast, the Midwest and the West, along with callers from Asia, Australia and Europe, you realize how expanded “community” has become, and just how good “the local guy” is. WBZ was clueless. We knew Steve was worth fighting for. I will happily listen to the Steve LaVeille Broadcast on WBZ radio, but WBZ radio has really blown its credibility.

Once again, thank you for your original story and your follow-up now.

  3. Great news! I couldn’t believe it when I heard it on Dan’s show last night. Welcome back, Steve, Diane and Max!

  4. I do not like national talk shows and have been cruising the dial to replace BZ. I think you learn more even when you do not live in the area of the local talker. When Paul Sullivan died the only thing keeping me at BZ was Steve. National talkers always seem to have to be “on” and I get tired of them. Where are the Larry Glicks, The Gerry Williams, the Paul Sullivans of the past? Could it be that they cannot learn their trade with the few national talkers taking up all the spots on the dial. Why should the guy in San Francisco be on more than one station in the Boston area? Is it to save money instead of using the airwaves wisely?

  5. SO SO HAPPY TO HEAR THE BEST NEWS YET. STEVE LEVEILLE IS RETURNING TO WBZ. I HAVE ALREADY BEEN SPREADING THE NEWS TO ALL WHO HAVE MISSED HIM AS MUCH AS I . THANK YOU WBZ FOR GIVING US BACK A WONDERFUL TALK SHOW HOST. ONE OF THE BEST IN THE BUSINESS.

  6. Here is one most won’t like. I did not like this guy as a night time show (bad host). I thought he was arrogant and as a retired business person, when I listned to the way he bad mouthed gold bond products, I thought how I would love to be a boss at bz so that I could personally fire the idiot . What a waste of so much time talking up what he liked though (marshallow fluff). Thats when I went to a night time NY station even though it does not come in too good.

  7. When Steve left BZ , I deleted BZ from my memory buttons on my CC Crane Radio.

  8. When I didn’t hear Steve on the radio I just figured he was out on vacation but when this went on by the next week I felt something wasn’t right.. Thats when I went online to Steves web site and found out the bad news. I couldn’t hardly believe it. No more Steve. I was upset because this guy is good, I mean really interesting to listen to. I work nights so when Steve is on it made working at night alot better. I was hoping that the radio station would reconsider. I was just checking my radio and there Steve was. I’m glad he’s back and I know that with Steve back we’ll get Mel Simons back as well. Good choice WBZ.

  9.
