Nadya Suleman: Mother of California Octuplets Has 6 Other Children
Whittier, California is home to Nadya Suleman. Prior to giving birth to eight babies earlier this week, she was living with her parents in a neat cul-de-sac neighborhood with her other six children, ages 7,6,5,3 and twin 2 year olds. She sat down for her first interview on February 5 with Ann Curry - link here.
The Los Angeles Times is reporting that the woman’s father will be returning to his job as a contract worker in Iraq in order to help support his wife Angela Suleman, their daughter Nadya and her expanded family. Reports indicate that money has been a problem in the past. Nadya’s mother filed for bankruptcy last year, with debts totaling nearly $1 million. She has told reporters that the debts owed on two Whittier properties have now been paid and the filing has been withdrawn.
Nadya Suleman sought fertility treatment and was implanted with numerous embryos last year and according to the mother, they all happened to take. Throughout the pregnancy, doctors thought there were seven babies. The surprise eighth baby shocked the massive delivery team that was assembled at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Bellflower, California.
Medical ethicists and fertility specialists were quick to share their arguments against the dangerous practice of implanting more than two embryo at one time. The mother was given counseling on selective reduction early on in her pregnancy but decided against terminating any of the babies.
Dr. Harold Henry, the woman’s physician said, “Our goal is to provide the best care possible no matter what the situation or circumstances are. What I do is just explain the facts. I always talk about the risks. The mother weighs those options, and she chooses the option based on spiritual or personal makeup.”
The births are only the second set of octuplets successfully delivered in the U.S. The Chukwu family of Houston is raising seven children. One of their babies died shortly after birth.
Nadya Suleman, new mother of the octuplets issued this statement:
“We understand that you are all curious about the arrival of the octuplets, and we appreciate your respect for our family’s privacy. Please know in our own time, we will share additional details about this miraculous experience. The babies continue to grow strong every day and make good progress. My family and I are ecstatic about their arrival. Needless to say, the eighth was a surprise to us all, but a blessing as well. We thank all of you for the positive thoughts, prayers and generosity.”

Is the mother of these new babies insane or is this a money-grab, I need my 15 minutes thing? Why would anyone seek fertility treatments to have more babies when she already had 6 children at home? Who is paying all the medical bills? Does the man going back to Iraq make so much money they can afford to feed, house and raise 14 children without government support? I just don’t get it.
Who will pay for the birth and the everything else for the next 18 – 24 years. There is no father, looks like the TAX payer againg really gets screwed!
I am outraged at the irresponsibility of both the mother and the physician involved in this. The long-term health implications to these children, given their premature birth status,is almost a certainty. Never mind the fiscal irresponsibility that has occurred and will occur in the future due to the adverse health impact of a premature delivery on each of these children (one I am sure that these people will expect the taxpayers to subsidize), the psychological impact of these children having to live with an avoidable and unnecessary disability as a result of the irresponsible actions of these people.
This is not an act of god here, and it is certainly no miracle. It’s just another classic case of modern medicine proceeding on the premise that it is OK to do this “just because we can”, and not stopping to ask whether or not they should. After all, the taxpayers have deep pockets to cover the cost of it all.

This is so stupid. What kind of clown gets fertility treatments with 6 kids at home? Living with her parents? I wonder if they’re even here LEGALLY?
I cannot believe this! When you live with your parents and your six other children, maybe undergoing the birth of another child would not be wise, but EIGHT?
There should be some insane tax that is brought on families who choose to continue to have monster size families biologically.
These babies were nine weeks early. As a medical professional, I cannot stress enough what this will do to their mental and motor functionings for their lifetime!
I hope these parents and their whole village are ready for their homecoming–no one will be getting any sleep for the next 18 years, but don’t ask me for a hand-out!
I think with 6 children at home already, this mother should do the right thing and give the new 8 babies up for adoption to people who have not been blessed with children yet. Maybe then the public would respect this mother.
What type of responsible reproductive endocronologist would implant more than 2 or 3 embroyos? Sounds like she didn’t have IVF, but had an artificial insemination with injectables and produced a large number of follicles/eggs.
Please, we have become a nation of whinners—with the publicity from television, radio magazines; nationally and internationally this lady, her children, her parents and father of her children will be taken care of for the rest of their lives—without our pitiful tax undervalued dollars.
Moreover, the medical community will use the science envolved to help countless other future women and pregnancies.

Wow so she thinks she is so genetically superior that she has to create her own village??? This is an abuse of technology that should be used only to help those who cannot have a birthchild without it. If she did the fertility treatment to have a birth child that was one thing but she has SIX already! omg. I have 4 (the last pair an ooopps) while I am blessed and love them I know that when you start hitting 4 or more kids your time is no longer your own and you have to careful manage your time to make sure everyone gets enough personal attention while the daily tasks of life work and school are met.
What an irresponsible shame this woman and her parents are. I just can’t get over her living with mom and dad? It looks like they have turned her into their person puppy mill. Background and mental screenings should be done before doing fertility treatments- They do it for adoption. I hope these kids get a good life.

She already had 6 children, the youngest twins were only 2!!! It appears the “father” and her aren’t married or else why not just say it. He is not Military or they would have just said he was in the military. He is doing contract work in Iraq which pays VERY WELL but it is always short term so my guess is he got the gig for the good money it pays. But it doesn’t say HE”s the father of these embryo’s either. Obviously she had medical insurance….? But something is clearly very wrong with this picture. Normally, ethical doctors knowing she just had her last set of twins 2 years earlier and already had a total of 6 SHOULD NOT have done this procedure. I do think we have the right to know whether or not this is another TV show in the making and if this family, including the parents she lives with is getting some kind of assistance. If they are doing it on their own and they are all sane, God Bless them. But if not….we should know about it. Is the mother or father of legal citizenship? Is the Father so well employed that she was covered under HIS insurance? Evenso, will the family qualify for public assistance…? What medical needs will these babies, weight 1-2 pounds be looking at in the future…?

What is wrong with our society that we reward these irresponsible parents by indulging them with everything that they need to raise these children? People are already sending gifts and envelopes to the hospital. I know couples that are still making monthly payments to the hospital that delivered their baby. If our government can pay for the delivery and expenses for these children, then why can’t they pay for the delivery and care of ALL children?
Kate and Nadya knew exactly what they were doing. Both of these women already had a set of multiples so how can they say that they were surprised when they were told that they were having multiples again? It is well documented that neither of these parents had the means to support the children they already had. Yet they made the decision to have more children. How is this anyone else’s responsibility but their own?
I don’t mean to sound harsh but they both choose to have more children by whatever means necessary, so please don’t expect the rest of us to support your children!
These children are going to suffer for the rest of their lives because of their parent’s selfishness, laziness and narcissistic needs. If they don’t suffer physically, they WILL most certainly suffer emotionally! There is no way that these children’s EMOTIONAL needs will ever be met!
I adopted a child in the foster care system. I went through a great deal of scrutiny. I had to prove that I was able to provide for the needs of my child. Maybe parents receiving fertility treatments should have to submit to the same guidelines and during the process assume that all of the embryos will thrive?

I can’t believe how callous people are. There are eight lives here. Maybe she only wanted to become pregnant with one baby. So what if she has 14 children. Totally irresponsible – both the mother and physician who implanted 8 embryos. I have never heard of an RE who would transfer 8. And now, who will be supporting all these children?????
What a cruel twist of fate that so many educated hard working couples cannot reproduce yet the lamest among us tend to breed like flies. ADOPTION is the only solution to this mess. Not just for the newborns but CPS should look at the other six as well.
After reading some of these comments I can truly understand why the family does not want to be in the spotlight. I pray all is well with the mother, babies and the family. The media can turn this into a circus as we all see it has become. While we all have the right to our comments, the family has a right to their privacy. My grandmother had 13 children, not this way of course and another family member has 12. In those early days I’m sure if some of us check our family history we will find very large number of births from a single family simply because there was no birth control and this is how things were. Given the fact that she chose to give birth this way is her right just as the controversy that surrounds abortion when a female decides to do so, its their business. And for those of us (me included) remember that old saying people who live in a glass house shouldn’t throw stones. This is my comment whether I am right or wrong.

People like this are why we could use something like China’s “one child policy”… What will this country be like in 20 or 30 years? Everyone I know who is RESPONSIBLE, with a college education and a job, has 0, 1, or at the most 2 children. While you always hear about and see unemployed, uneducated and often single women having multiple children.. Who’s supporting these children? Taxpayers are. It’s time to place some restrictions on parenting.. Time to take away the tax benefits. Time to stop granting automatic citizenship to children of illegal immigrants just because they are born in this counry.

News reports quote her as saying she “Never expected 8 when she took fertility treatments…” GOOD GRIEF!! She already had 6. What did she and her doctors think the fertility treatments were going to do; make her MORE fertile? To what end? She was already “rabbit” fertile. Having children was obviously not a problem. Perhaps there is a disorder such as Bulimia Nervosa, for binge & purge pregnancy.
I don’t understand why people think they are illegal aliens. Regular “americans ” have alot of babies too. Just look at Jon and Kate plus 8.
From my experience as a board-certified OBGYN, I’m gonna guess that father of the octuplets is not the father of the other six (or at least the first 4) and she had a tubal sterilization in her 20’s, which I usually recommend against. While working for the army, I came across a very high number of women in their early 30’s with new partners who now wanted to cement their relationship by having the new partner’s baby. Since tubal reversal is not that successful, another option is IVF. She clearly didn’t have ovarian infertility, since she has had so many kids in a short time. It is abolutely irresponsible, however, to implant more than 3 embryos, and even if one or 2 embryos spontaneously twinned, she would have had at most 5 (still unconscionably risky).
I hope she does get lots of publicity deals so we don’t have to pay for her children’s upkeep. Since the father has self-identified, he will have to pay child support.

This woman and her reproductive endocrinologist are giving Assisted Reproductive Therapy a major black eye. Any decent physician would NEVER have 1) given infertility treatment to a young woman with 6 children under 7, and 2) transferred so many embryos in one cycle. It is usually considered unethical to transfer more than 3 embryos at one time. To transfer 8 with no apparent medical reason is simply reckless. This woman and her doctor took the babies lives into their own hands. I am surprised that all 8 survived birth, but I won’t be surprised if at least half have long term illness or disability. I sincerely hope that companies do not reward this stupidity and irresponsibility with sponsorships and freebies. So many couple struggle with infertility (including myself) and this case is a huge slap in the face to all of us who struggle to be parents

It astounds me that a woman who already had six children, is unemployed and living at home with HER parents, and unmarried would have the gall to undergo infertility treatments for more children. In contrast to other posters, I didn’t automatically question her citizenship. Her last name seems to reflect someone of anglo or african-american descent possibly and not latino as has been inferred by other posters. Regardless, what she did was irresponsible, immature, and reckless. Her motives are questionable but she is fortunate to have a family that is so obviously supportive no matter what they may think privately. I pray for her children – all 14 of them – they’ll need it the most.

Charlotte and Stanley mirrored my feelings ..I question the medical profession’s reasons for doing this.. Money ?? Notoriety?? What?? An unmarried woman with 1 child should not be in line for this !! (without financial stability) As so many have said , they are going to need SOME kind of special care that the state will have to substidize one way or another. If not before, .. the school system will ultimately pay for whatever special education they will need.. It bogs my mind that this was allowed to happen in the first place.. The news JUST stated that there is and has been financial difficulty in the family!!
I just retired from a school district where I have worked in special education for 30 years! It is a very expensive system and funding constantly being cut by the legislature.. The medical personnel who okayed this should be responsible financially!!!! It is truely disheartening.. Talk about PUPPY mills!!!!!

Anyone that has more than 2 to 3 children today is the most irresponsible civic society member and should be treated as such. There is nothing “miraculous” about artificially implanted babies. While this seems to have been very unethical, who are we to judge this family? I to had the same thoughts as some of you,but only our Lord knowswhat the future holds for this family. After all that is what they are FAMILY. I am a forty five years old single parent of one and would have loved to have given my son a sibling but unfortunetly I cannot have anymore. I hear the Grandmother works as a technician in a fertility clinic. What a coincidence? And don’t you find it odd that this family who appear Muslim are encouraging their daugher to have so many kids out of wedlock. Makes me wonder whether the woman is a daughter or in fact a 2nd wife of the “grandfather”.
Either way the whole thing is incredibly fishy. I just grateful she gave birth in CA and not over here in the UK. With our insane benefits system she would live a life of luxury forever. Not only are our welfare benefits not time limited but they are paid to even illegals. Worse still be pay more per additional babies which explains the numerous large familllies here. With just 7 kids you can rake in $3,000 a week in cash with everything else paid on top forever. Imagine what she could have got if she had chosen the UK rather than CA.
Does anyone realise that this mother, if it is true she already has 6 kids, has been pregnant for the last 7 or 8 years? Give your body a rest lady; or you might not be around to enjoy those babes.
I would wonder if there is perhaps some criminal recourse against this woman for neglect and or providing a hazardous environment for the children she has already and the ones that will be added. If the average child costs $130k to $150k to make it to the age of 17, where is the money coming from? What about the social and emotional needs of these children? How much physical room can they provide for all of these bodies? I have heard about criminal charges being applied to overcrowded households, why wouldn’t this count?
There certainly should be some investigation and regular checks by DCFS to ensure the welfare of these children both physically and emotionally.
You know I tried to give this family the benefit of the doubt early on. I can sympathize with a couple who has tried and tried to conceive children on their own, but is unable. I can understand the personal/religious reason as to why you would not want to terminate some of the embryos. I even came close to applauding this family for not wanting their identities to be revealed to the media. But now I am just plain sick and speechless! It is sad to know that there will be thousands of people in our nation who will donate their time/money/services to this family for their stupidity and that our hard earned tax dollars will likely find their way to this family!!!

Think about it people. She is a young mother (I’ll bet in her mid-20s) with 6 kids already, barely scraping by, living with her folks. Last time I checked, invetro costs about $20K per shot. Now the mother’s father Ed says “we’re moving to huge house.”Where you do think that came from? Probably the same place the invetro money came from. I smell corporate advertising here. As another poster said, society will be footing the bills for these kids for the rest of their lives, however long that is. You’re not born 9 week premature and without lasting health complications. While it might be viewed as Orwellian to impose limits on having children past a certain number, no one can deny what would happen to this planet if everyone did the same. this is insane. they filed for bankruptcy last year? what kind of idiots would try to have another child or eight, especially that requires fertility treatments, when they have 6 to feed and clothe already? i am outraged that these children will be raised by idiots who cannot manage their own finances and will more than likely end up on some sort of assistance paid for with my tax dollars. i have one child and made a responsible decision that one was all i needed or could afford to raise and educate.
i am a special needs teacher and i know the disadvantage that children must overcome when they have parents who cannot make ends meet. not to mention the disadvantages they will have to overcome medically and probably emotionally as they all jockey for attention in a family that is just irresponsibly too large. they don’t even have their own home for pity’s sake.
i am sure tlc or the discovery channel has begun negotiations to film it all and cover the material needs of the family, but what do they do when the glare from the camera lights begins to dim and the attention and charity wane?
Who will pay for all this? Well. either their insurance company or the tax payer. According to the story, there seems to be a male provider working in Iraq as a contractor. That is good, as it does not place the burden of care for these children on the taxpayer. Incidentally, that family will never again have to pay taxes and they will have all or most of his money refunded. How many dependants? lets see…grandma, grandpa, momma, poppa, 7yr old, 6yrold, 5yr old, 3yr old and two 1yr olds, babies A-H…that’s 18 dependents! Gee, I wonder what would happen if we all bred for tax credits?
The mother of the Octuplets needs have her head exams not fertility treatments. Angela Suleman alread had 6 children under the age of 7 and lives with her parents. The State of California should not be responsible for the welfare of any of these costs for the care of the children.
This woman is a crazy breeder. She made these personal choices and needs to live the results. If she can’t care of these children – then give them away to individuals that can take care them. She need to have her tubes tied.
There is something wrong with the healthcare system when a boy in Washington, DC area died last year because of an abcessed tooth, and no doctor or dentist would see him because he couldn’t pay…and on the other coast, a mother who is already a mother to six children gives birth to octuplets. I just heard that each baby has two nurses assigned around the clock. This is obscene and a travesty that our nation will let a boy die because he couldn’t see a dentist, but we will pay for EIGHT premature babies to have the Cadillac of healthcare, when their births were planned to add to a family of 6 children already.
We the taxpayers are so short-sighted. We must demand justice for the children who already exist, and demand that the government regulate fertility treatment. The doctor who allowed this woman to use fertility drugs or IVF should lose his or her license.
Not that this is any of my business, but I think that to have eight more when you already have six has got to be overwhelming. I feel for the seven year old! Will she be the one forced to take and help out? So much for being a child and enjoying these years. There wil be no time for that now that she will be helping out with her siblings. Hopefully it will work out for everyone and all I can say is GOOD LUCK BETTER HER THAN ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I feel 2 is plenty! Don’t let them outnumber you.
I am just as baffled as to why . . . . . but I am appauled at all of the bigotry I am reading and hearing in the assumptions people are making about this woman just based on the fact that she has 6 stair steps, is living with her parents, and is single. Not every single mother is on welfare. The last time I checked, Keiser Permanente was not a medical assistance provider (at least not in my state). Not all large families with extended relatives are illegal ailiens. If this woman was in some type of financial trouble and living with her parents, maybe she was a sarogate and was doing it for the money. Do we demand to know every person in America who is on welfare? Clearly, this whole thing was not handled with the caution it should have been. This woman doesn’t owe the world anything, except to give her very best to all of these kids.

Charlotte I am on your team. I am livid. I have only two children; as that is all I could afford. I am educated and make over 200k a year. For most of us, parenting is about a long term commitment, this woman is not a mother and does not deserve this title. In addition, my medical plan is with Kaiser Permanente and the last thing I need is for my premium to go up because of her. She should of been asked for a 1 milllion deposit in an escrow account as part of her fertility program to cover for any costs that us taxpayers will now have to bear. I WANT ANSWERS AND ACCOUNTAB ILITY!!!!!!
This woman has 6 children already (are you kidding me!!!) and who knows who the father is of those 6 kids or how she supports them (probably our nice and warm welfare system) I just dont’ see those pro choice people coming out to help to support her financially. There isn’t a partner, the “contractor” in question is her father.
The woman is single, approximately 33, already has six kids, the youngest is two. She’s not having procreation issues obviously. She lives with her parents. Her father was supposedly “Iraqi military” – yea right their military pays worse than ours yet he can afford more than one home and he is returning to Iraq to work as a contractor.
Something is seriously wrong here besides a complete lack of ethics on the part of the fertility doctor and insane selfishness on the part of the mother. She needs a psych eval desperately. No one can care for this many children adequately.

Why anyone would want to have that many children is beyond me, but that’s a personal decision. But I cannot imagine how this lady would be able to support all those babies on her own! I think this lady has serious some mental issues. She should have been seeking psychological treatment, instead of fertility treatment!
I could be wrong but…Maybe this is just the begining of an Al-Queda unit right here in CA. Not irresposibility but a plan. That would certainly explain a lot including the influx of $$$ required to pull these 3 adults from the brink of financial disaster, and now they will be moving to a larger (read more expensive)house.
Honestly, I find it this situation to be incredible and maybe morally and ethically questionable, but it’s just as wrong for 95% of the public negatively commenting on these people to be saying anything. There are large numbers of potential children killed every year in abortions, women with serious pre-existing health probleems that have babies (and maybe shouldn’t for their own health and the child’s), unmarried women with babies, teenagers that produce children when they’re still children themselves, children with multiple fathers (some born to married couples), etc. The list goes on and on of “morally questionable” children and families in this country. As for “ethically questionable”, people who participate in IVF and other fertility treatments are in a way “playing God” themselves with the help of doctors. What about people that fertilize embryos in order to select their baby’s gender? Shut up Medicaid bashers, public health insurance won’t pay for fancy designer children or for people that can’t get pregnant. Medicaid is there to provide a healthy start for all babies so they don’t have health problems later in life. And for all the “normal” and “responsible” soccer moms and dads out there, the majority of them may be educated and successful individuals, but a high IQ doesn’t necessarily make someone a good parent. There are plenty of children that come from “good families” and end up being ignored by their over-achieving, career-focused parents, among numerous other unfortunate situations that occur everyday in America’s suburbs. I’ll bet everyone that wrote something nasty has some kind of connection, personally or through close friends and family, to someone in one of the above situations. So as deplorable (from a medical ethics standpoint), that the Nadya Suleman situation may be, please look at your own lives before you judge others.

I can’t judge the motivations of the mother, grandmother or grandfather involved here. FACT REMAINS, that this little HELPLESS humans will need all the blessings that can come their ways.
The endrocronologist who was so RECKLESS and IRRESONSIBLE needs to pay the costs of the next 18 years of these octuplets . Unless he/she was duped or lied to but it sounds like he/she simply didn’t do their homework as most MDs should easily be able to figure out if a woman has already had one or more children.
My understanding of IVF and ART is that the current science is to the point whereby you should only have 2,1 or 0 babies after a treatment cycle. In general, a viable pregnancy results about 25% of the treament cycles (or less). Triplets would be a freak of nature, splitting of one of the embryos IF BOTH embryos made it. Quads would be the 1 in 64 million outcome based on an implant of 2 viable embryos. The IVF or other ART treatment cycle is monitored on a daily basis by a competent clinc and endrocronologist.
After many miscarraiges, I opted for IVF and finally was blessed with twins under strictest medical guidance and listening to it. HOWEVER, I am fully employed, have ZERO debt and made sure that I have the savings to raise my two angels for the next 18 years (plus) without a burden to anyone.
I did not enter into motherhood as a trivial matter, but as the most serious undertaking in my life (and for the lives of my twins). And to answer that open question, yes, these are my FIRST, SECOND AND LAST CHILDREN!
Nadya Suleman (the mother) has been quoted as saying (to the nanny who helped care for the autistic child) that she was paid to have the babies. Someone also had to pay for the IVF and the fertility treatments.
Nadya could also afford to get her degree from Cal State U. (maybe while on a student visa? Who knows?)
There could be a sinister possibility…….the family is Palestinian. The babies are US Citizens, and the grandmother says they are all from the same sperm donor.
Are these 10 boys and 4 girls future “home grown” terrorists? Or a sleeper cell?
There have been other Middle-Eastern women who have given birth to US citizens, then taken them back to the Middle East……..and the US Taxpayer pays for the birth.

There are psychological concerns with this family and the best she could do is give the babies up for adoption. I work hard to support the one child I have and can not even imagine what she was thinking when she decided to have more children. She can not even provide for her first six. CRAZY!!!

This is nuts I am so conserned about the state of prople and their mental health. Six children already and 8 more, what was she thinking. There is no way she can properly care for any of those children and they will grow up to believe they can behave any old way they want and it is okay. Who is paying for them now or in the future. There are some of us who are working very hard to raise 2 nice well rounded children in a world that is dead set on anything being okay. Well this is not okay.
This is not 8 boobs she had implanted, these are living being who need care forever. And the doctor where is he who is he and his license should be taken away for such irresponsible behavior. I work everyday in a small, rural school where children don’t have a lot and I provide support to the ones who need it the most. The hard working teachers that help them at school are doing all they can and then the kids go home to be with adults who are making poor choices over and over again, kind of like this woman. We work hard all week to build them up into positive people only to have to start all over again on Monday due the weekend they had. This woman and her children are another case of irresponsiable adults placing their needs, wants and desires above their children’s. Sure I love children and would love to have lots of children but what is best for the ones I already have. Certainly not more children that need care andlove. I teach and work with kids I know what 14 children are like and having them in a structure environment like school is one thing I can’t imagine having them in my home. I know God teaches us not to be judgemental but come on what is exactly happening to our country. This is a prime example of the world being so afraid to say anything that might hurt someones feelings. I don’t know where to stop here I am so upset that this is allowed to take place.

Isn’t 6 children enough? Nowadays it is hard to raise a few children (2-3). I can imagine raising 6 on your own is tough enough without the father. Now Nadya’s father is going to Iraq to pay off nearly a $1M in debits as well as having to support his daughter. Don;t get me wrong, I love my children (2)and grand children (4), but where was the “Family Planning” in this instance? Having the LARGE families may have been easy to deal with 30 years ago, but now, the times are different. Call it rude, cruel,…..etc, but what is cruel is that she is considering SELLING her story. I am a preschool-k teacher for 15 years. That she took childhood ed classes or psychiatry classes means nothing! Some of my most ignorant parents at the schools had those degrees or doctorates. They were non present or over analytical and clueless when it came to properly nurturing and raising their precious helpless children. God save the children.

I think she will get enough support through book deals and such. So no taxpayer money needed. But she and the IVF doctor compromised the health of those children. That’s not fair. The woman needs counseling herself. Has way too many issues (I am master’s level, counseling psych). Docs never should have implanted eggs. Moreover, she says that she was implanted with 8 & knew she would never select down should all be fertilized. Another red flag for docs! A history of bankruptcies, no means of support, living off her parents as well as workers’ comp (how can you “be there” for your kids when you supposedly intend to work in the future and you are banged up?) . This woman Nadya Suleman was on disability for the past 10 years due to a prior back injury. If she was too disabled to work, how did she manage to do several IVF cycles and have 14 children during this time period? Doesn’t sound like she was disabled to me.
It appears that Nadya Suleman knows how to work the system and will have no problems finding funds for her growing family and ridiculous decisions.
OK, I know some of this isn’t very politically correct, but, please remember I am trying to be honest here at the cost of being blunt. If this offends you, I think you need to reevaluate your thinking. Yes, continue to quote the scripture about “… Be Fruitful and Multiply…” and use that as an excuse when the world is grossly overpopulated as it is. The question to me is, “Why is any family raising this many kids no matter how much money you have?” This one woman and her mother will take care of eight babies at once? I remember how big a news story it used to be for families with quadruplets or even quintuplets to try to physically care for them with two strong young adults and a nanny. These people aren’t even suited for this. It will be mass neglect. This is the best argument for abortion and contraceptives that I can think of. No political party or government, except for China, will address the problem. If you do – you are compared to Hitler and the Nazis who actually did try to eliminate certain segments of the population Most people don’t realise that the words “planned parenthood” mean exactly that. When that organization was started it tried to get enough support to implement the idea that poor people limit the amount of their children and it was even “planned” at first that some people who were on government assistance were to be encouraged to be “sterilized” for free by the government health departments to prevent the type of neglect that develops from large families with no educational background and little opportunity for career growth or educational advancement. The unpopularness of these ideas was exaggerated, as usual by the “religious conservatives” who practice the ‘right to life’ attitude. This was argued as the minorities involved played the race card and said it was an attempt at ethnic cleansing by our government and they claimed it was aimed at minorities instead of the poor as it was intended. I personally think the Catholic church ought to change some thinking for a few decades and promote more responsibility, especially in the already starving countries. In My Opinion, some people don’t realize it but the government never disliked minorities, they dislike poor people. Sounds like a good reason to try to create more educational opportunities and higher paying jobs to me, instead of farming everything out to other countries. The question is how long before we start limiting the number of children you can have to one or two children? China now has a limit of one child per family. You would think that it didn’t have to be a law for people to be responsible enough to their kids and the rest of the world to realize the burning question on the minds of most congressmen is, “What are you thinking about when you have five or more children if you can’t even afford to feed yourself?” These people don’t have to be on welfare to be sticking it to their tax payers, they can just write off each child as an exemption. It works out to about half the cost to feed and clothe each child anyway. Another thing that no one in the government would dare mention about this is also we have gotten rid of the draft and improved health care, extending more lives. We already have a massive homeless population. The things we used to call “natural selection” were war, pestilence, and plague. The incidence of teen pregnancy has got to be adding to the problem considering one in four teenage girls has a sexually transmitted disease. A little over two centuries ago most people didn’t live to be over thirty years old and about one out of eight children died in childbirth and half of those with complications were responsible for the mother dying as well. That is a big reason for large families in third world nations because most of them don’t make it to adulthood or much later. Now people can consider having eight children at a time though the miracle of modern science. At that rate, pretty soon we will be stacked on top of each other. I think we should consider what do to limit that irresponsility..

The family filed for bankruptcy with a 1million dollar debt. It takes time and irresponsibility to build that much debt even if it is through real estate endeavors. Bankruptcy is just a way to place the blame elsewhere. Years ago, if you claimed bankruptcy you were a stain on society, now it is commonplace and there is no stigma involved.

I have 3 children, the last is special needs and I know the costs and care necessary for that child, they are great! She is being selfish and uncaring not loving to bring 8 children into this world that will have special needs and she does not have the money or the support system for them! It is sad and very wrong for that reason alone. She cannot possibly give them the love and care they need and deserve – they should be adopted to loving families!
I don’t believe this. I make about 100K a year, have 2 kids and one on the way and that’s it. With them, going to school and my very little debt, I can’t afford more. What in the hell goes through the mind of a person who wants to have so many kids? I would put down a limit law on the kids in the US based on gross income. If a person has so many with already collecting welfare, forced adoption should occur. What I see here is nothing more and nothing less than a big idiot looking for a little celebrity status and our govt to pay the bill with our tax dollars. Hell, I should ask Uncle Sam for a damn rebate for raising my kids.
