Miley Cyrus Photo Angers Asian Group for Being Racist
Another Miley Cyrus photo scandal is brewing. The latest picture has many calling the 16-year-old Hannah Montana star racist.
The photo shows Miley and a group of friends pulling back the corners of their eyes to mock the slanted eyes of people of Asian descent.
The OCA, an Asian-American advocacy group, issued a statement saying, “The photograph of Miley Cyrus and other individuals slanting their eyes currently circulating the Internet is offensive to the Asian Pacific American community and sets a terrible example for her many young fans. This image falls within a long and unfortunate history of people mocking and denigrating individuals of Asian descent.”
“Not only has Miley Cyrus and the other individuals in the photograph encouraged and legitimized the taunting and mocking of people of Asian descent, she has also insulted her many Asian Pacific American fans,” said George Wu, executive director of OCA. “The inclusion of an Asian Pacific American individual in the photo does not make it acceptable.”
The group has requested an apology from Cyrus for the offensive gesture.
This is the latest in a long line of photo scandals for the pop star.

Um, the guy sitting RIGHT next to Cyrus looks pretty dern Asian to me. Would they be doing something racist if an asian guy was RIGHT THERE? Anyways, this shouldn’t be too important.

Is this really the photo? I don’t know if it’s just me, but Miley looks pretty wasted in this picture, and the guy holding a glass of wine doesn’t help. I wouldn’t be so concerned about Miley acting like a regular 16-year-old and having childish fun with friends, more than I would be worried about her being at an unchaperoned party getting drunk at only 16. Where is that dad of her’s anyways, the one that’s getting rich letting disney market her?

It’s built in with psychological and sociological forces–besides she was with her friends taking a picture. the only thing this girl needs to be careful of is being aware of cameras and any other recording devices. Racism towards Asians is considered acceptable in western society due to the many wars and economic rivalry between Whites and Asians. Everyone goes apeshit when Don Imus says “nappy haired ho“, but when John McCain said “I hate gooks“ it doesn`t make the mainstream media. Miley Cyrus is damn lucky that an Asian happened to be in the picture, this has lessened the backlash she would of gotten considerably. To me it doesn`t matter whether an Asian is present in the photo, I`ve met Asians like this before, they sacrifice their dignity and usually allow themselves to be the the butt of jokes in order to climb the white dominated social ladder. Although they are Asian in appearance, they tend to consider themselves white and all their friends are usually white. They have low self-esteem and often they make jokes about their Asian appearance in order to be accepted and play the role of court jester to the delight of their White “friends“.

Yeah, it does annoy me when a white person starts telling me why there is no racism in the world anymore and that ethnic groups keep it going–while talented black female performers who plays their own instruments gets beat out by talentless blond 16 year olds who cannot sing and has to lip sync–however, we have to differentiate between when we think someone is being deliberately racist and when people just don’t know any better. for all the comments defending miley and her actions i.e. “get tougher skin”, “white people should be offended by the asian guy holding his eyes wide”, etc…look at the big picture. you seem to forget that caucasians hold just about all of the political and economic power in this country since they are the majority. minorities are not equally represented in politics and government. that’s why they are minorities. this is a huge deal to the minorities who are trying to improve their social status. so by differentiating somebody’s looks based on race in contrast to the CAUCASIAN MAJORITY perpetuates an unequal playing field. more importantly, it prepetuates the majority continuing to be the majority and making sure the minority stays where they are at. so you can see how this can manifest in society and the work place with favoritism, hiring practices, promotions, opportunities, etc. so the slanted eye gesture shows that “you are different”, “inferior”, “not like us” and a group is typically only concerned with its own intersts and survival.

Ahahaha I find this incredibly funny. For one thing. Most of the “asians” posting on here. Are most likely white. Not asian. And if you are asian. Then you’re simply white washed to the extreme. How can you “asians” care so little for your own race. I guess asians have been stripped of their pride. I love the way the common white teenager thinks. Apparently most are afraid to make fun of african americans because they’ll get most likely shot and shanked. And the entire black community to deal with. However. This makes the average white teenager to think that they can pick on anything and everything that isn’t black. Which is wrong. Because racism is evil to the extreme. Demeaning and dehumanizing a whole group of people just because they look different from you is purely ignorant and heartless. Being asian myself, and having never harmed or comitted any act of unkindness upon a white person. I’ve always been picked on for being asian. Having been called: Gook, yellow bastard, chink etc, I’ve grown to wonder exactly why whites think they have the supreme right to think that they’re above everyone else and that the have the god given right to be racist. Idk. Maybe it’s just in their blood. Do I hate white people? No. But do I hate the underlying supremacy mindset most of them have? Yes I do. From experience. all I can say is no matter what a white person says about how they are not racist. There is one thing they can never understand. and that is the fact that no singular white person can understand the pain and humiliation that minorities feel.
