Jeremy Lusk: Freestyle Motocross Rider Dies of Injuries (Crash Video)

Jeremy Rusk Motocross

It is a sad day in the motocross world.  Freestyle motocross rider Jeremy Lusk was killed last night after he sustained head injuries during an X-Knights event in Costa Rica.   He was performing a move known as the Seatgrab Indian Backflip when he lost control of his bike.

Lusk, 24,  was taken to Calderon Hospital ICU in San Jose where he died at 11:03 p.m. on February 9, surrounded by his parent, Chuck and Linda Lusk, his wife Lauren, and fellow Metal Mulisha riders Brian Deegan, Ryan Hagy, Cameron Steele and Erik Apple.

Lusk had an impressive year in 2008, grabbing X Game gold in the FMX event and silver in Moto X best trick.  He was also names FMX rider of the year, appearing on the cover of TransWorld Motocross magazine’s January 2009 issue.

We have photos and the video of the crash below.  Please be advised that it is graphic.

  2. This crash was Crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. this is the saddest thing to ever happen, I’m so sorry to see him gone. Jeremy was a bad ass, i miss him already.

  4. That was very sad. My heart goes out to his family and friends.

  5. the video should be taken off the internet completly. its disrespect to show the video on here.

  6. Is anyone really surprised this happened? While I feel sorry for his widow, we always need to remember that life is about choices. He CHOSE to participate in this activity (I refuse to call it a sport) and it ultimately cost him his life…

  7. Fly high Jer…RIP.

  8. Dear Lord… that is really sad… hes now dead because of that…

  9. rest in peace young man. My your parents and wife find peace in knowing you passed while doing something you loved. The Lord will watch over them.

  10. MY HEART GOES OUT TO HIS WIFE AND FAMILY, THE THOUGHT OF HOW CLOSE EXTREME SPORTSMAN’S LIVES ARE TO ENDING EACH TIME OUT IN AN EVENT SHOULD RAISE THE SALARIES FOR EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THEM,WHY DO WE PAY BASKETBALL,BASEBALL AND FOOTBALL PLAYERS THE EXTREME SALARIES WHEN THEY DON’T DO EXTREME THINGS??? LETS BE REAL WE ALL WILL MISS JEREMY EVEN THOSE THAT DIDN’T GET A CHANCE TO MEET HIM BUT WE ALL HAVE TO AGREE THAT JEREMY DIED DOING SOMETHING HE LOVED AND “WOULD” DIE FOR !! JEREMY FROM MADISON,INDIANA (ME) YOU WILL BE MISSED !!!!! LOREN LUSK , KEEP YOUR HEAD UP AND LOOK FOR THE FUTURE TIME HEALS !!!!

  11. Yes, Jeremy Lusk did CHOOSE to participate in the SPORT of freestyle motorcross. Just as so many fallen athleates who have been lost while participating in sports such as football, auto racing, mountain biking, horse jumping….etc…etc. No matter how dangerous, or “Extreme” a sport may be, it is a heart wrenching thing to see a man die and leave a family behind. My thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family. R.I.P brother.

  12. my condolence goes to his family, I am deeply saddened…….

  13. It was bound to happen, how many times can you push the envelope? very sad, my heart goes out to his family..RIP

  14. i kiss you jeremy

  15. To Tim in Stafford,
Have you actually ever watched a moto? Do you even know what a moto entails? My brother rides motocross and it takes a lot of athletic ability to do what these riders do. Have you ever even been on a bike? You are a complete and total IDIOT!!!! These people yes risk their lives when they perform these stunts but you DAMN sure liked watchin the video didn’t you? They do this because they love it. It is a passion for them. You have no clue the physical training they all go through to be in great condition so that they might be able to ride. You should probably do some research and understand a little bit more about what you are talking about before you go and insult motocross all together. This man did what he loved and yes I am sure that he knew the risks of the job, but that does not mean that because he chose this as his profession that we can not mourn the loss of a great rider. So I think I speak for most of the moto crowd when I say keep your retarded, uninformed, unknowing, selfish comments to yourself.

  16. Tim in Stanford how dare you say its not a sport your just mad cause you don’t have the balls to do it. I’ve been riding freestyle now for 4 years and bikes i general for longer these guys go threw hella shit just to go out and do what they love and your calling it not a sport man your an a-hole go get a life I’m sure his wife would love to see that your saying her husband died for no reason.

R.I.P JEREMY I GOT YOUR BACK

  17. My prayers and condolences…..you were and are an amazing athelete!!!

  18. My heart goes out to his wife and family. The world of Extreme Sports is missing a great sportsman. Jeremy will truely be missed.

  19. Lauren can’t imagine what you are going through – The love of your life is in another place now –
God will give you the strength to get through this and YOU will see him some day – Angels
    Will watch over you -

  20. it is sad for all of the people around him, but he died doing what he loved and i would only hope 2 have the same honor in death, these kind of people amaze me and my family and i thank God for them.

  21. you know… Jeremy Loved That! i dont blame him i loved to watch him. he was a great rider… my heart goes to his family… RIP……

  22. first…my prayers go out to him and his family… god bless !… … JUST GOES TO SHOW YA… just because you have a trick dialed dont mean you will always land it… so always think bout yer jump and ALWAYS thank god and ask fo his help before every drop… ya never know if its yer last…

    peace

    god bless

  23. What a damn shame!!! rest in peace dude!!!
my thoughts and prayers go out to his family….

  24. Oh,,,so THAT’S why it is NOT a good idea to spin upside down on a motorcycle…DUH!

  25. If somebody doesn’t push the envelope, humanity doesn’t progress.

It’s not just sport, it’s industry and defense too. I recall hearing that roughly three people die for every mile of road tunnel dug.

Everybody’s focusing on the death, rightly, but before he hit he was flying.

P.S. Zac Sunderland of the LA Times has a piece up which states that nobody remembers a fatality in FMX since its start in the late ’90s.

Condolences to the family and friends.

  26. Jeremy was a badass and we all miss him…but take this video off it disrespect

  27. It saddens me to see this, however,.. you cannot push the extremes and expect no consequences. the worst part is the promoters allow this kind of crap.

Yes, it was Jeremy’s fault for attempting, but the promoters were also at fault, for allowing it.

What does this say as a society, that we expect harder and more dangerous stunts, and we wait for the super wipe out. We have become to callous and don’t respect life as we may have once done.

  28. This is a sad tragedy and my heart and prayers go out to his family and friends, he seemed like a geniun guy. As for those people who make comments about the sport and this was bound to happen, when it is your time to go its your time to go. Whether your sitten on the couch watching tv or out playing football or doing stunts on your bike. We don’t say when we go, its already mapped out for us. So I think the people that take life by the balls and have a great ride should be praised. We should learn from these people who are not afraid to live thier life to the fullest. They are not afraid to try things because it might be dangerous, this is the life we get and they choose to live it. It was his time to go, as sad as it may be no matter what he was doing at that moment he still would have went it just would change how he went. So for people who want to say “should we be surprised because of the profession he was in”, you need to find some humanity and think before your write comments like this. These comments hurt people especially when they are grieving. You should be so lucky to have the passion for life that he and others who enjoy life to the fullest. have. My hats off to him and his passion for life, his passion has touched many and they will be forever changed because they met him or knew him.

  29. RIP Jeremy. You will be missed in the FMX community. God bless your family and friends.

  30. my hopes go to his family…big loss to the motocross world and to everyone

  31. yea i say that should be removed disrespectful forsure espesially to his family i wish you the best R.I.P jeremy!!

  35. A terrible accident that has taken a true hero of the sport. He died doing something he loved and he will always be remembered for that. My thoughts are with the family and friends at this awful time.

  36. R.I.P. Jeremy Lusk……Keep Flyin Bro!!!

Prayers to the Lusk family and friends
    Mulisha Forever!!

  37. hey tim in stafford go f yourself are u even a human being show some love for this man he died doing something he loved so respect that don’t put it down this was his life

  38. Tim in stafford doesn’t need to comment on stuff, that he don’t understand. Not to call this a sport? You have to be joking, I can name way more sports that shouldn’t be classified sports then, baseball, golf, tennis, etc… We all know there is a chance of death at anything we do, crossing the street, driving a car, taking a shower etc……. yeah freestyle motocross is way more of a risk. But to make a comment like this is horrible, people need to keep there opinions to them self in tragic times. Why is this fool even commenting on a subject he doesn’t even know anything about. Jeremy Lusk would kick your ass, god bless him and best wishes to him family and friends.

  39. Sorry to say do not feel sorry for the guy that does blackflips on machines that are not meant to do that and that is the choice he must pay for that life style…life is precious and these dirt bike guys might realize life is worth more than the ego getting attention for flipping the dirtbikes

  40. What the did he expect, really?

I agree with the above, though. Take down the video, people!

  41. This is so sad….I can’t say enough how relieved I am that my kids decided not to pursue dirtbikes/racing/freestyle for this reason alone. A very risky hobby for my boys. My thoughts and prayers are with Jeremy’s family.

  42. I loved watching Jeremy, he was one of the reasons I even watched Motocross. This video made me ill. But it wasn’t that he was doing anything he hadn’t done a bunch of times before. I feel sad for the fans, motocross and especially his family and his wife. To pass away while doing what I love would be a blessing, but he will still be greatly missed and my condolences to his Wife and family. RIP Jeremy, we are better for knowing you.

  43. To Tim from Stafford, go f yourself! Jeremy lusk was a great athlete in one of the greatest sports ever and one of the best at that AND HE DIED DOING WHAT HE LOVED! Tim u sound like a ass looser with no balls! My heart and prayers go out to his family and friends, RIP Lusk and god bless!

  44. Tim in Stafford – How can u come on here with those comments? Those people are very brave men, doing the sport – yes sport they love! These riders deserve nothing but admiration. Jeremy Lusk was an nothing short of an incredible rider and that is how he will be remembered and will continue to be an inspiration for many young riders today and in the future. My sincere condolences to the entire family and his friends. R.I.P Jeremy you were incredible rider, sportsman and personality to watch grow x

  45. the video should be taken off the interweb indeffinately, show some respect for the guy, how would you like the crash that ened your life broadcast world wide. Lusk was a influential innovator in FMX. he will be missed by all who was influenced by him. FMX will never be the same without him.

  46. very saddened when i heared this, my prayers go out to family and friends…stay strong … you will be greatly missed jeremy, rest in peace

  47. Jeremy, shut up…tired of people saying to drop the video. He was a performer, and got burned. So quit bitchin, turn to a different webpage…

  48. wow tim you must be retarded to say this is not a sport. not just ANYONE can jump on a bike and do amazing tricks with it. i bet all you do is sit at home on your computer and drink pepsi. you really need to get life!
this is one of the most dangerous sports out there!

    RIP Jeremy

  49. tim in stafford- or is it tim in womens underwear. dude, maybe if you would watch a little fmx you would understand just how big of a sport it is.What sport do you do? MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS TO THE LUSK FAMILY.

  50. what a loss for everyone. i love watching xtreme sports however this is definately a risk of performing…Jeremy knew this as does everyone else who watches. I am deeply saddened by this video. i also feel its inappropriate for evryone to view. My condolences go out to his family and friends and to all who knew him personally. God Bless JEREMY AND I HOPE YOU’LL BE SMILING IN Heaven watching over the rest of us and most importantly be that angel sitting on every other riders shoulder in future competitions…Your daredevil X-treme bravery in competition and your enjoyment of life will carry on forever….

i also wanna send a big shout out to another brave soldier not taken but critically injured, we all appreiciate your courage too.. Stephen Murray.

  51. MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS GO OUT TO THE LUSK FAMILY & FRIENDS. I have much RESPECT for athletes such as Jeremy. He died doing what he loved to do. This was HIS CHOICE in life just as we all choose what we do. Rest In Peace Jeremy…You will be greatly missed!!!

  52. If you don’t understand the sport and don’t have sympathy for people like Jeremy,!

This site is up for us all to mourn and show our sympathies to the family.

Jeremy was a great athlete and preserveered through life and obstacles. He showed us all MX fans, riders and racers what going after life and what you love is all about.

The sky can fall on our head any time of the day, anywhere in the world and Jeremy chose not to wait for the sky to fall.

    In our Hearts forever Jeremy.

  53. R.I.P (Ride In Peace) Jeremy. You got back of so many people. But we will definitely miss you.

  54. i love dirtbike riding, i have one of my own..im 15 years old and a girl, so you would imagine we arent very respeted in the sport. when i got this text message saying he died, i was in awe..couldnt believe it happened. what i am trying to say is, to anybody who thinks that it is not a sport, i would like to hear you say that after you try it..to do this sort of stuff, jumping tens of fett in the air is one of the most dangerous things you can do, especially if you have no safety restraints..watching this video really makes you cringe.,imagine watching it if he was your husband.show some respect and imagine what the family is going through.honestly, you cant judge the sport or the corageous rider who recently lost his life to it until you actually try to do what he did.jeremy lusk, you willl be missed..he was one of the most talented men out there who gave his life to a sport, he is literally a hero to thousands of fans. rest in peace.

  55. to every single person on here who is saying that motocrossers deserve this needs to take a look at themselvs long and hard. i have been riding a bike for over 10 years. Its my love, my life and my passion. Now i know that i risk my life everytime im on it but its a passion unlike you cant ever deny. its better than anything in this entire world. but its not an easy task you take so much of a physical and emotional beating but in the end it is all worth it. I would like someone who doesnt consider this a sport and you think Jeremy died for nothing to come see me get on my bike and really feel what this wonderful man felt. i have seen him live several times and he brought me too my knees jeremy lusk will forever be missed and will always be in my heart. He died for a love, pleasure, and prue statisfaction of preforming a SPORT not only for him self but for all his adoring fans. Rest in peace Jeremy.

  56. Jeremy is a hero to alot of people young and old.

He made a choice in life and took it to the limit, his family and friends enjoyed his drive to go one step higher to reach a goal that no other could…to have his dreams and share them with all his friends and family.
Keep up the good word MM Riders! Ride Free!
See you on the other side Jeremy.

And now for all of the SICK people that come on here to see how me and others react to your posts that are on this site for the friends and family.
Yes this is the land of free speach…but it is also the land of the free to do what ever you want…and you may have lost a loved one to some SPORT or some form of people exspessing them selves in something they love and makes them feel GREAT…take your goal to another site to make your piont.

I know there is plenty of sites out there for your type.

  57. Rest In Peace Jeremy Lusk! You were an honorable FMX Rider & many looked up to you! My thoughts go out to his wife & family. METAL MULISHA FOREVER.

&P.S TO EVERYONE NOT MAKING POSITIVE COMMENTS, KEEP IT TO YOURSELF. HURTS TO READ SUCH A DISCUSSION IN SUCH A LOSS TO THE FMX WORLD.

    RIP JEREMY. <3

  58. For all you morons saying take this video off the internet…..WHY THE HELL ARE YOU ON HERE WATCHING IT?!?!?!

Obviously you went searching for it and found it!!
How is it disrespect when the event was recored and televised anyway?!?!

  59. To the hatters wrong time wrong place, so shove your head back up your, eat another doughnut and let us motox family morn the loss of a legend! When you tards can get out and step up maybe then you will understand. Thought so RIP Jeremy

  60. this is way too bad… Ive met him once at the Xgame and he was a super cool kid!! Way too young for something like this too happpen!!
but doesnt someone gotta hold her wide open?? go big or go home is the way he did! RIP lusk.

  61. Its kind of ironic (look it up in the dictionary) that I get all this static for making a relatively benign (look up that one too) comment. I read far worse comments written here (lee Harvey Feb 11th @ 6:10 pm, tom feb 12th @1:17 am, Roddick Feb 12th @ 1:14 am), but if you want to come after me, go for it. You have your opinions and I respect them, even if I don’t agree. The ad-hominym (another word to look up) attacks are really childish and uncalled for.
For the record, I feel for the man’s family (I believe I said as much in my first comment) and I couldn’t bring myself to watch the video (I am a father and I feel for this young man’s family having to see this posted on the internet…but this is a free country).
That being said, I will respond to the following posters:

Chelsea: I have watched in the past…and cringed…I won’t call you names back.
Kenny: It’s STAFFORD…If you are going to insult me, at least do it properly. I never said he died for no reason. PS> learn to spell…THROUGH…not THREW.
Chad Cali: I didn’t put him down, but you believe what you want. Peace (In response to your “F-Yourself” greeting).
Michael: “People need to keep “there” (You related to Kenny?) comments to them self…Just like you are?
    Adam: You sound bitter…Peace
Barbara: My comments differ from yours…we can agreee to disagree?
Ashley: I made one comment and decided to see if there were responses. I hope you, above all, look up the phrase “ad-hominym.”
Cory: Maybe you and Ashley should make a date and look up the same word…To respond to your other comment, I play and coach basketball, I play baseball, I swim and even play golf (I can hear the groaning now, but that’s cool).

I don’t troll the internet to stir stuff up. I am an educated man and this story is sad to me. I just have a hard time comprehending what drives people to tempt death the way they do…that’s my response…I would love to hear back…I’ll check back in a few days…

  62. My Thoughts and prayers go out 2 the family and wife of Jeremy Lusk…May God Bless You and keep u strong thru this rough time in ur lives!!!! R.i.P. Jeremy!!! u WILL be missed!!!

  63. SUCH A SAD LOSS FOR SOMEONE WHO HAD SUCH DRIVE AND MOTIVATED YOUNG KIDS.. NEVER FORGOTTON

  64. fly high man…R.I.P

  65. i cant believe the affect this has had on me just by knowing this guys name from my brother doing moto-x. i really feel for his friends and family, god only takes the best this just shows that. he had so much more life to live but he enjoyed the life he did have and so did we watching him you will be missed x r.i.p

  66. Time to thin the herd…this isn’t a sport…neither is cycle racing or car racing; just activities for the non athletes with no God given skills.

  67. Stop with the “Thoughts and Prayers” crap! Are they going to save the next motocross rider who snaps his neck. NO! That is who I care about. Jeremy is gone! The focus should be on shutting it down! The sport, the tracks, the whole damn thing! Remember this could have been prevented! Where were all of you before Jeremie’s crash? Rooting him on? Where you?

Enough with all the sorrow too. People die everyday in cancer wards! Everyday! Every freakin day! CHILDREN TOO! They suffer with the worst kind of pain for months, while Jeremy died shortly after his injuries. Do we see them on AOL, NO! All we hear about are guys like this. Don’t feel sorry for him. Why? Hard working people make an honest living that contributes positively to society. How did Jeremy give back? Great, he inspired young boys to ride their bicycles off their roofs and snap their necks. ENOUGH! The sport should be banned! What is it going to take? Another Jeremy incident with tributes and replies? RIGHT?

I have an idea, take down the hungry media machine that encouraged this suicidal spectacle for profits.

Reality check. The sponsors, ticketers, organizers, don’t care if a rider dies, if they did they would ban certain jumps and regulate it.

Why feel sorry for Jeremy. He had a choice. He was a perfectly healthy and disease free young man. But he decided to run a dirtbike at high speed over a ramp, flip in the air and expect to walk away. Come On! Come on! Come On! Someone should have stopped him.

STUPID! Yes. If he were my son, I would have taken an aluminum bat to his bike and begged him to quit that freakin sport. I would have fought him tooth and nail to quit! I would have ran out onto that course to save my son.

Guess what? There are A-Holes making money off of this unregulated and suicidal sport.

Someone here has to put things in perspective!

  68. Being an avid dirtbiker and a huge fan of motocross, I wanted to leave a comment and feel I have the right to do so because I can speak from experience.

Although I’ve always been a recreational rider I understand the concept of pushing the limit and always trying to improve your ability. That’s part of the excitement and thrill of being on a dirtbike or any motorcyle for that matter.

I have the utmost respect for the motocross riders, supercross riders, freestyle, trials and road racers when I see how they can handle these machines with such amazing precision, they make it look very easy, but it’s not.

Although the risk of injury and death is very high, I can relate to why these riders want to “push the limit” and perfect their craft. Unfortuately accidents of all types can happen while you’re going through this learning process and this accident happened to end in the worst way possible.

I really feel for Jeremy’s family and I wish them all the best trying to deal and cope with this terrible accident.

People should be very selective about judging people and should think twice before posting negative comments.

  69. to the guy from stafford.
just because he chose to be in the damn thing doesn’t mean u shouldn’t show some respect. the guy died.
he was one of the best out there so if u are going to leave a comment then show some respect

R.I.P jeremy lusk u will never be forgotten.

    1984-2009

  70. Hey Evan D……the comments you made just come from people that have neither the courage nor the skills to do what these guys do.
I’m not into motocross much but envy what they accomplish.

You sound very angry at a person you don’t even know which leaves me to believe you and others like you are probably morbidly obese, out-of-shape and to put it bluntly……. jealous. Jealous because you hate your 9-5 and can only dream you had even an ounce of courage of what these riders have.

Have a good day. Get back to your Big Mac and scratching your groin as you watch TV for the next 4 hours.

  71. Right on Evan D. I could not agree more. It’s a sucicidal activity. I am a HUGE Supercross and Motocross fan. I support the sport and have for 48 years. But not this freestyle crap. It’s not Motocross. It’s a circus show. I am sorry for his wife, family, friends. But he made his decision to do something STUPID. STUPID. STUPID. Now who suffers? His wife, family, and friends.

  72. Evan d. i think you should go f yourself obviously you have never rode a bike in your life. the man died so show some respect you a-hole. i agree with you that people die every day and nobody heres about it. but this man has puts his life on the line every day for the love of the SPORT, and for us. he is a true hero. i think you should try and ride a bike then tell me its not a sport cause its a lot harder then you think. by the way people who ride aren’t suicidal idiots

you will be missed. My prayer go out to Jeremy and his family and friends. fly high jeremy. R.I.P

  73. my heart goes to the family and friends. what he did may have not been the safest thing the world, but he gave someone isperation. that doesnt have to mean insperation with freestyle motocross. just because you do not approve of what he did does not mean you should lable him or his job. god bless.

  74. I was part of the public that day… it really was horrible… I still feel very bad…

  75. Hey Kirk,

This is reality! Your insults and gibberish will not bring him back. Leave your ego at the door. Someone died, let the focus be on reform and regulate, and not your bruised feelings.

In the real world, the adult world, “With freedom, comes great responsibility.” If an adult man chooses to do a suicidal stunt and then dies, the responsibility lies with him. He paid the ultimate consequence.

    For Tom H.
    “he is a true hero”

Are you delusional? His actions widowed his wife and caused the greatest pain and sorrow for a mother and father. Think about that! A “true” hero would have put down the bike and evaluated the risks involved. It was truly selfish to do what he did. I’m the sure the glamor and the hype that surrounded Jeremy actually enabled him to have a “Jesus Super Christ” mentality. Like he could do “all.” I believe there were individuals that caused his fall. I question what their motives were? “Hey Jeremy, go higher” is what the ankle biters were probably saying to him to fill their pockets. Is there a watchdog group for this sport?

Tom you are in reaction mode, and I am in action mode. While you and the rest here are writing “R.I.P.” and “fly high,” I am writing to sports organizations and researching what the next protocol should be to save the next young person. The preventative measures begin “Now”!

I am still amazed that you used the word “hero.” This activity is, “a sport”? Sports are recreational and are supposed to enrich our lives, and not put a teenager’s life at risk. Heroes lead the way to success, not stupidity. You and the rest here are only advocating the next Jeremy Lusk to “fly high.” I am truly disturbed by this.

I am not a monster. I have served my country in the military, I do ride a motorcycle, and believe in embracing every second of life.

If everyone here focuses on the loss, then what will come of this. Nothing, forgotten in a matter of weeks. And the show will continue and this will really disrespect the life of Jeremy Lusk. Like he never existed. If you really want to honor him and his family, then save your sentimental words and take action.

Take down the “sport” that took his life and will continue to take others.

A mother took down drunk drivers with M.A.D.D. And we should do the same with Extreme Motocross.

  76. I can’t believe how thoughtless a lot of people can be. Have they ever thought about how the families feel? This the one way to be able to send condolences to families that we don’t see in person. It is NO different than when they die and people call or come to their funeral services and pay their condolences. yeah, so what those other people didn’t die motocrossing, but how many of them die doing what THEY love. Just because you like some sport or activity, doesn’t mean they all like it, but bottom line is that REAL people still feel for those who have lost a loved one. I can be pretty certain that those of you who are bashing and insulting, have NO EXPERIENCE what -so- ever in this type of sport. Get a life and show some respect. Jeremy Lusk was phenomenal, you should eish you could be have the man and person he was. God Bless to his family and friends. Lots of Love and peace. R.I.P.

  77. A sad day for the sport. RIP. As to anyone with a negative comment please refrain from posting. For one this man rode out of passion and would have done it with or without an audiance, he along with the other pros are just like any other ATHELETE they have progressed to a level that people aspire to but not many reach. Second of all, this is a time for people to remember Jeremy and his accomplishments. Tim, Evan, Darwin, etc., you wouldn’t say those comments at a funereal, and I’m sure you wouldn’t want those negative comments said about any of your loved ones regardless of how they passed, so please show some respect.

  78. Tim in Stafford

You are an idiot, trying to come across all educated, yet saying that mx is not a sport. That is why all these people jumped down your throat. For one, why the hell are you even reading this article if you do not have respect for the great SPORT that motocross is. Please get educated on the SPORT of motocross or stay the hell away from these articles. I briefly rode as a teen and I also played high school basketball. The physical toll that mx has on your body is just as great, if not greater. The talent and physical strength required to do half of what the pros do is light years ahead of what it takes to play any other sport. I would love to laugh my ass off at you taking a ride on a bike some day. Until then, just keep ripping stuff that you have no clue about.

  79. Sucks for his wife and kids, but the dude was not a hero in any sense of the word. He got his kicks flipping around on a scooter, how bout shedding a tear for the kids getting blown up in bagdhad before getting all weepy for a fool who crashed backflippin a dirtbike and leaving a widow and some kids to deal with the aftermath. FLY HIGH DUDE, get real!

  80. great dude RIP

  81. 1st) Jeremy God Rest Your Soul you’ll be missed dearly.

2nd) Jeremy’s wife and family my you be embraced by God during your time of grievance know that Jeremy’s memory will live forever as he is a legend.

3rd) To all of you whom believe it is ok to post on here anything disrespectful about this man and his life should feel shame, I as a Marine currently in Iraq chose my job too a job that requires being shot at if I were to die for YOU tomorrow what would you say to me? “Had it comming” yea Tim we all have choices in life some people choose to make a difference (Jeremy inspired many to follow their dreams no matter what those dreams maybe) I always wanted to be a U.S. Marine growing up and here I am so before you go judging what other people do or have done and you decide how to comment on their life go look yourself in the mirror and ask yourself what the F*** kind of man are you!
(Sorry if I have upset anyone just felt as though it had to be said)

  82. He died doing what he loved doing best RIP

  83. Tim in Stafford, You have got to be the biggest a hole ever. I can’t believe the total disrespect for life. Would you say that about a soldier that dies at war, that it was thier choice. My hart goes out to his wife and family. God Bless.

  84. Dr. Teeth and any one else whom has a problem with the idea of mourning the loss of Jeremy Lusk,
Are you serious? This man was no shot by police while committing a crime, he was not killed in a car wreck while DUI or speeding through traffic. You and a lot of other people on here should have a little more respect for a great man and yes a hero to some who lost his life while doing something he loved. You know there are many routes you could take most of the ignorant comments that have been made here and elsewhere, for instance a zoo keeper killed by a Lion, a white water rafter drowned, and football player dies of heat stroke. The latter for those who feel MX is not a sport. MX FMX ect are SPORTS and those who participate and compete in it know they risk their life as do I every morning that I get to wake up (I am a Marine currently in Iraq) just like a load of other jobs in this world where one risk their life to complete there job. These people myself included must all be idiots for choosing to have a job where our lives are on the line. FMX was Jeremy’s job yea he loved it so maybe it is envy that a man was able to have a job he loved that has caused such a slew of ignorant statements. I am sure you while come back with some comment about “envy yea right” or some other remark so save yourself a little time and know that ignorant people like yourselves can usually be read like a book.
My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

  85. dude this video is really disrespectful to the family. f who ever is talking bad about jeremy. my brother died on a bike 2 and these guys ride because its a passion, not because there showing off. RIDE IN PEACE JEREMY

  86. your the man lusk, RIP and f any one who says different

  87. Stafford……Get over yourself and get a clue, you self-proclaimed educated person. I can brag all I want about my IQ but that does not make it so. Keep your tongue wagging to yourself or get on a bike before you throw-up your uneducated point of view.

Jeremy’s boots were on. We love him for that!

  88. R.I.P to the Lusk family. I was truly shocked to hear of his passing. He was so young and full of life. He inspired young and old living the life he choosed to live. He inspired kids from all over the world to go for what you want in life. His nickname was Twitch- not sure if most new that but he got his nickname b/c he has turret syndrome. He is a role model to anyone that has been motivated by his illiness to continue his dream. HE DIED DOING WHAT HE LOVED!!! HE LIVED LIFE TO THE FULLEST…HOW MANY OF US CAN SAY THAT!! HAVE SOME RESPECT. HE DIDNT LET HIS TWITCH STOP HIM FROM LIVING HIS LIFE.

  89. My condolences are with the Lusk family, and particularly to his widow. This is a terrible, terrible tragedy. My thoughts and prayers have been with you and your family. May you find comfort in knowing that he chose to place his heart in God’s hands.

As for those rude, ego-centric and insensitive comments, this world is filled with far too many very small, unaccomplished people like you. What words will YOU want to hear when (not “if”) tragedy strikes you personally?

Get away from the safety of your keyboard and serve somebody. Get out there and spend time talking to a senior citizen, a war veteran. When you see a bad traffic accident, be prepared to actually stop and help, not just gawk as you do. Be ready – because maybe some day you, too, will be called to hold the hand of a dying human being as I have. It’s very possible that someday you could end up laying broken in a street as I have, in a pool of blood – unable to move – would YOU want to be ignored? Selfishness is the basis of all evil.

  90. TO Lauren lusk: I am saddened by the event of your Husband’s death. I Hope that God will give you the strength to carry on and be strong. You are a strong beautiful woman and should have never deserved to have Jeremy taken from you. As we all know, you can rest assured he is watching over you and loves you. You will see him again one day on the other side of those Pearly gates.

NOW… to everyone who is quibbling on this site, this isnt a place to fight over who say what, but rather a site to leave your condolences and pay respect to a true fighter and hero of FMX. take your fights and language to myspace where it belongs.

RIP JEREMY! peace and love, Pitbull!!!!

  91. hey, umm, DIZZY…. youre kinda dumb. It was JEREMY LUSK- not Jeremy stenberg. get your facts straight…..

    RIP JEREMY!

  92. To Tim from Stafford, What are you doing on this site? Why are you here really? To say the things you have takes either huge balls or a really tiny brain. You say you’ve watched the sport? Good on ya! Doesn’t make you any kind of authority. For the millions of us who participate in the sport in even the smallest of ways, whether it be riding, watchin it on Tv, or watching from the sidelines, this is something we love. It’s obvious you don’t share that sentiment and that is your right. However, the fact that you say that you don’t go ”trolling the internet” looking to stir things up is complete crap. That is exactly what you did, have done, and keep right on doing. With all due respect…..butt out! Let the fans and friends do the talking and go back to the country club! You know where you and your thoughts belong and it isn’t here. May God watch over Jeremy and his family, and may God have mercy on your soul Tim. You may be educated, but you are with no doubt the biggest idiot here. I feel I speak for everyone here when I say….Your opinion is not worth anything to us! Keep your word….quit stirring the pot! Peace out!

  93. sorry this happened to him he will be missed much i now know how my parents felt when they almost lost me because of motocross. but at least he went out doing something that he loved doing but jermy and god are now watching over his family now and he is now in a better place much love man you will be missed tones.

  94. HORRIBLE!!!!!! i loved him he was awesome

  95. RIP

  96. FLY HIGH REST IN PEACE

  97. jeremy lusk liked u so much u was an excelent rider and every one will remember u xx u were so good at the frestyle compotitiosxxxx

  98. Hats off to the fearless few ! and to the naysayers……. MOVE ON.
From the North, our best to the Lusk family & to the Mulisha, Keep Riden Boys!!!!!

  99. My Little Jeremy,
    “The Broken Chain”
    We little knew that day.
God was going to call your Name. In life we loved you dearly. In death, we do the same. It broke our hearts to lose you. You did not go alone. For part of us went with you. The day God called you home. You left us beautiful memories. Your love is still our guide. And though we cannot see you. You are always at our side. Our family chain is broken. And nothing seems the same. But as God calls us one by one. The chain will link again. My dear darling “Peace”

  100. I didnt really know anything about Jeremy but i do know that he had kids and a wife. i feel terrible for them. to Tim in Stafford, i know where your coming from but you need to have more respect. and to say its not a sport is saying that he wasted his life. a sport is anything that is competative. moto sounds like a fun and great SPORT but when your have a wife and kids i think its time give it up because its not worth their pain.

    RIP jeremy

  101. To Roddick,
I can not believe the disrespect you chose to show on this forum. How can you say you don’t feel bad for the guy who does back-flips on motorcycles.? Jeremy lost his life entertaining millions of us. He was doing what we all know was his passion and true love. Do you do anything productive? It’s not just feeling bad for the guys who do backflips, it’s having a heart!!! Think of his family and beautiful wife… He was so young and he wasn’t just a motocross/freestyle rider, he was a son, a friend, a family member, a HUSBAND! Have a heart and think of his grief stricken family. I can hope that he is up in heaven smiling down to the ones that believe in him and the sport of motocross/freestyle.
    To Tim from Stafford
Listen to Bryce from So. Ill !!!!
Being educated doesn’t mean anything. A lot of the time being educated makes you social handicapped and you have proved that through your comments. You not only insulted Jeremy and his entire family, friends, and fans, but you insulted millions of people. Motocross is a huge SPORT-yes I said it SPORT!!! It holds a special place in million and millions of peoples hearts. It’s a lot of people’s lives, careers, and lifelong dream to be doing half of what Jeremy has done. Motocross is my families life and I can’t imagine the hardships that his wife will endure. My prayers are with his family and friends. I hope they can find the strength and courage to get up every day and be reminded of the wonderful time they spent with Jeremy! With lots of love!!!!

  102. Jeremy, you’ll always be remembered as one of the greatest of all time. I know, on behalf of all of my friends, you were loved by many.
    Ride on in heaven.
    RIP Jeremy.

  107. R.I.P from Canada

  108. your a great rider and will be missed so keep ridin up there see you soon!

  109. what the hell is wrong with all of you negative people. this man died doing what he loved. so dont go and say that he “pushed the envelope to far” that is just dumb. he is a simple thrill seeker, he knew the consiquences when he started his sport and dont you go blaming the sport. he is one of the best at what he does and i wanna say that i feel sorry for his familey and RIP

  110. Jeremy was my idol he inspired me in so many ways and for those people who are talking negative things “SHUT THE **** UP”.The best has gone but not forgot!!!!!!!!!! Rest in peace!!!!!!!P.S take that video off it is really disturbing!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    <3Love, Lexus<3

  111. RIP Jeremy we will all miss you very much you may have died but you will never be forgotten and for all you people that are talking shit Jeremy is was and still is the best freestylerider and twice the man any of you will ever be.

  112. Well said Slim

  113. Probably one of the most sad things ever in FMX history. I’ve always had this feeling that these guys were somewhat invincible, that they could take the worst crash and come back but suddenly all that changed. I’m glad that his last year was his best atleast he went out with a bang. Sadly some of the don’t get that. I’m outraged specifically by this comment:
    Tim in Stafford Said:
Is anyone really surprised this happened? While I feel sorry for his widow, we always need to remember that life is about choices. He CHOSE to participate in this activity (I refuse to call it a sport) and it ultimately cost him his life…
Well Tim he may have chose to do the stunt but you can’t ignore the fact that he loved it and that he’s dead and you’ve now disrespected him, his love, and his death and it is a sport that takes balls and apparently you have none. You are absolutely cold hearted and nobody deserves to be mocked in there death.

  114. jeremy lived a life that i and many others can only dream of. i am full of admiration and respect for such an extreme athlete. respect jeremy. regards to the lusk family, i feel for your loss. i hope u find comfort in the fact he was such a great man even tho not having him around is so tough.

  115. so sad to here about this.
he was a true rider and loved what he did.
all my love goes out to his family.
    RIP jeremy

  116. well i have read every one of these notes and you guys didnt leave me much to say. i will miss jeremy he waS ONE OF THE BEST FRESTYLEIST IN THE WORLd and unfortunatly passed away but when i look at this situation he passed doing wat he loved and really thats it. he was young but he changed the world and caused an impact. my feelings go out to jeremys family&ftiends.

and too every person who decides to right disrespectfully to lusk out of all places why on this site like wtf is you problem no one should be dis respected expectialy he never did anything to you or anyone else so f u dude i ride for the passion of riding when im on my bike i feal invincible and i think thats how jeremy felt and excuse me having to wright to ignorant people rip jeremy lusk

  117. i am a dirt bike rider.i want to try freestyle motocross but im not sure.ive watched the x-games and its a dangerous sport.what do you think i should do?ive only been riding for about a year.i love the things that jeremy lusk, brian deegan, jeremy(twitch)steinberg and the rest of the freestyle motocross riders do.my heart goes out to all you guys!keep it going.look for us on myspace@texas moto mafia.were getting there.hope to be like you guys one day.pray for us.amen!

  118. a hero is someone who shows courage and nobility for the greater good! A soldier, yeah…a dirtbike rider doing flips…you decide….the sad thing is that he was just a kid and had only began to live life!

  119. the only one truly disrespecting Jeremy is the one that placed the video on here!

  120. RIP
    BRO much LOVE ,,

  121. For all the comments made…ESPN today shot a segment regarding the X Games. Listen to the other riders…they know what their doing everything the sit on that bike. They know the risk, but they do it for the fans. I am very sure that Jeremy is landing that jump in the clouds as we speak. If he was here today, he try again. We can only have respect for guys like Jeremy doing it for the Fans. RIP Bro. Keep flying high!

  122. Wow – some strange stuff written here. Cool it folks. Sports are great – even this one. Some take it to extreems that other don’t understand – why? – many reasons I am sure, but they are all individual choices and this is a free country and that is what makes it a great place – What is a sport anyway? I’ve seem my fair share of questionable ones in the Olymics of all places. Jeremy and many others take huge risks out there, myself included, with much less skill I admit. I am sure many of the naysayers take their own risks, smoking, drinking, overeating, not wearing you seatbelt or whatever, so really just keep quiet and find some other blog. It sure is one of the most exiting moments to rip a sweet line and thanks to all those pushing the limits to share a little of the excitement with us. Afterall life would not be worth living if we all sat around scared of death. My love to the family and all the other sport enthusiast who leave too soon.

  123. A legend has fallen, jeremy was much loved and will be missed by millions all over the world, my heart goes out to his family and friends. R.I.P my friend we will always remember you.

  124. dude guys grow up talking crap over a website that was supposed to be about leaving your respects to a great person.

  125. Um. You guys do know that the video that is up there now is actually a crash from 2007 xgames. Jeremy walked away from it. The actual video is not here now. Maybe it was earlier in the year but that’s not it now.

  126. RIP Jeremy. With respect and prayes for your family.

There is a lot of talk about experience. The idea that the experience and thrill of a sport leads us to respect it. True enough.

Here’s another thought: Maybe the experience and thrill of this sport causes us to disregard the danger.

Sky diving, swimming with sharks, race car driving, down hill skiing etc… Each can take a life. Individuals involved are rarely expected to police themselves becasue the need to seek thrills from the inside is too compelling. So, it’s always come down to the folks on the outside coming in and saying, “Okay that’s enough let’s limit this a bit.” It will ALWAYS seem wrong to those who participate. Society has always and forever taken the roll of regulators. So, maybe this sport needs someone to step in and say, “Please slow down the increasing need to go higher and farther because there acually ARE limits to what we can can do.”

I say don’t shut down the sport. That will only encourage people to go outside the law in purely unsafe situations.

Regardless if society agrees with the sport or not, they don’t want their kids going into something that may take them away from families.

Therefore, in my humble opinion, the sport needs to better regulate itself before more people die and society/public opinion/ politicians/police/health services eventually step in and do it for them.

That way they can control what happens next.

  127. This is not the video of jeremy’s accident in costa rica in feb. This is the video of his accident in 2007 where he walked away from. The video is on you tube as part of a tribute video which shocked me,I was not expecting it. The accident is much more violent than this one. You will see the trick did not look good from the start . It looked like the wind blew the bike over to the side and jeremy could not bring it around, he face planted in the ground with all the energy from the jump. He had no chance. The only good thing about the video is it shows how quickly the medical responce team came. I allways had question about that, but they did eveything for him. Just you tube jeremy lusk tribute.

  128. some people who made comments on here evan and tim you two are jackass if u dont like the sport then dont watch it or even look for it online us pro athletes do it for the love of it. we get paid crap, hurt our selves and still get back on. look up statistics jack holes and more people die crossing the street then racing dirt bikes or quads or any other motor vehicle combined if idiots like u to new how to drive and pay attention on the streets rather than stuff on the web like this upseting death of a true athlete not some one who bounces a big orange ball and jumps up and down to put it in a steel hoop u might understand what people that love this sport are so pissed at u 2 idiots for putting your 2 cents in when u should be just saying some thing like sorry to have heard about him hope no one else had this happen to them and end it there not it should be shut down and banned if thats true then all cars should be banned and trucks and busses all motor vehicles lets just go back to walking around will that make u morons happy

  129. o and by the way R.I.P. jeremy i have meet many pro’s u are the one i never got to and wanted to the most

  130. Wildchild….Oh please. Cars are necessary to get people to and from work, to grocery stores and even to your “sporting events”. There is no comparison between a car and recreational biking. Jeremy and all the others put themselves at risk, so when something goes haywire do not start boo-hooing (oh you are the greatest man). He not only put his life on the line but the well-being of his new (1 year) wife that he “loved” so much and the emotional turmoil that his “pro” ability caused the rest of his family. They are the innocent ones and the ones I feel sorry for.

  131. R.I.P dude
people have there own opinion but this is not the right place to put it.
what if you died and someone came to you funeral and said that I am glad that he is dead and he will burn in hell. it could be true but you do not do that stuff at his funeral. it is disrespectful. i do not care if you are the smartest guy on the earth if you are disrespectful then god bless you. the reason why people are disrespectful is because they have a bad life or they had a bad child hood and they got to take it out on someone and they should not do it here. go make a site and say all that you want to so but not here dude.
