Brad Van Pelt, Former NFL Linebacker Dead at 58 (Photos)
BRAD VAN PELT 1951-2009
Former NFL linebacker Brad Van Pelt has died at the age of 58 of an apparent heart attack on February 17, 2009. A Michigan State University standout, he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2001 and was nominated in 2005 to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Van Pelt played fourteen seasons in the NFL, for the New York Giants, the Los Angeles Raiders and ended his career with the Cleveland Browns in 1986. He was selected to the Pro Bowl fives times. His career stats included 24.5 sacks and 20 interceptions in 184 games played. He received the Maxwell Award in 1972 and was selected for the Pro Bowl in 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979 and 1980.
The NFL player is the father of former NFL quarterback Bradlee Van Pelt, who played for the Denver Broncos and Houston Texans.
