Anne Hathaway has been offered a pair of plum roles by Harvey Weinstein, film producer and movie studio chairman.  The 26 year old actress has been tapped to portray Judy Garland in a film and stage adaptation of Gerald Clark’s 2001 book Get Happy:  The Life of Judy Garland.

The combined theater and film project will allow Hathaway to show off her singing and dancing moves.  We’ve already glimpsed her talent, when she did a musical number with Hugh Jackman at the Oscar’s in February (see video below).

Garland’s most popular film was The Wizard of Oz, where she sang Somewhere Over The Rainbow.

Weinstein said, “We are thrilled to have the brilliantly talented Anne Hathaway portray stage and screen legend Judy Garland.  I have worked with Anne on projects in the past and have known her for many years.  She will be a true class act in this challenging role.”
