Paramount Dream Works 3D animation blockbuster Monsters Vs Aliens blew away the competition with a hefty gross of $58.2 million for its first weekend in theaters, according to Box Office Mojo.  The hour and thirty-four minute, PG rated kid flick featured the voice of Reese Witherspoon as Susan Murphy.

Second spot was captured by The Haunting in Connecticut, with a gross of $23 million.
