Controversial Burger King 'Baby Got Back' Commercial

Burger King has launched a new ad campaign to promote their BK Kids Meal that comes with a SpongeBob SquarePants toy packed inside.  The catchy commercial has some seeing red.

The King raps "I love square butts...." to the tune of the 1992 Sir Mix-A-Lot iconic hit Baby Got Back. The BK dancers work it while the King throws out some catchy lyrics including "I wanna git wit'cha, cause you're makin' me richer."

The commercial is not without controversy.  The Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood website says that SpongeBob and sexualization don't mix.  Their website went on to say:

"Nickelodeon and Burger King have partnered to produce a new, highly sexualized, ad for a Burger King SpongeBob SquarePants Kids Meal.  It is harmful enough when a beloved media icon advertises junk food to children, but selling Kids Meals by associating a beloved, male character like SpongeBob with lechery shows how little either company cares about the wellbeing of the children they target."

Others find it humorous and clever.  Burger King said this particular ad is not meant for kids and is only shown during shows that target adult audiences.

Check it out below.  Does it qualify as savvy advertising or an exercise in poor taste?  We've also included an old Friends video clip where Rachel Green and Ross Geller sing the original version of the song to their baby daughter.

Thank you for an enjoyable read. I was searching for stuff for my baby on Google and your website came up on search results. I've bookmarked your site so that I can come back and read more when I have time. Thanks very much.

Chuck is a bigot, he calls the Burger King commercial trash then goes on to slam women who don't like it. Any commercial that objectifies women is inappropriate, no matter where it is seen or heard. Burger King is lying when it says this commercial is only shown during programs that target adult audiences. It has been shown during numerous TV sporting events. Do we need to keep children from watching sports on TV? And who are BK's target audience, ghetto parents?

New McDonals Customer and jeanette need to educate themselves more on the subject of what is and is not appropriate in general. DO you think it is appropriate to let your kids listen to the garbage that is on the radio? How about the programming on MTV, VH1, Cartoon Network?
There are plenty of cartoons and programs that are NOT acceptable for kids. I don't let my kids watch that trash. There are more important things in this world than a 30 second commercial about a kids meal that offends you because the women portrayed are hotter than you? Phonebook implants are hotter than a burlap sack willed with cottage cheese and potatos ladies. Maybe you should lay off the fast food fatties, and try exercising for a change, before your kids grow up to be obese, school shooting, homicidal maniacs.

Yeah... I have a 7 year old girl and 3 year old boy. I am by FAR not a prude. If this commercial was targeted towards adults, I would think it was hilarious. However, the strip club dancers and bootey scopin' dudes aren't really the message I want sent to my kids, who have thus far not said "I wanna be a stripper when I grow up". Hope it stays that way. Burger King, the demographic for that commercial is not kids.

However Its a SpongeBob SquarePants Kids Meal with Sir Mix-A-Lot. Its not acceptable to me. It sends the wrong message to young kids. Funny or not this it not something to be proud of nor do we need it on TV.
