American Idol Results: Danny Gokey Eliminated May 13, 2009

Danny Gokey

It was down to a trio of contestants who performed Tuesday night on the FOX reality show American IdolDanny Gokey, Kris Allen and Adam Lambert entertained viewers with two songs apiece and then it was up to America to decide who would be sent home.

The Top 3 journeyed back to their hometowns for a love fest; Danny to Milwaukee, Kris to Conway, Arkansas and Adam to San Diego.  Touching video footage showed frenzied fans at rallies and parades.

Season 6 winner Jordin Sparks, looking very HOT, sang Battlefield and Katy Perry performed Waking Up in Vegas.  She wore a cape that she revealed to the audience with Adam Lambert’s name embroidered boldly in red across the back.

Over 88 million votes were cast and it was learned that the Top 2 contenders had only 1 million votes separating them.  After the votes were tabulated, it was Danny Gokey who was eliminated – see video below.  He took the stage and performed an emotional rendition of You Are So Beautiful, bringing tears to the eyes of judges Kara and Paula.

The 29 year old music director lost his wife Sophia 10 months ago when she died of complications following heart surgery.  It was just three weeks later when he first auditioned for American Idol.

For a walk down memory lane, see the May 12, 2009 performance videos here.

The final performances will air on May 19 and the Finale will be broadcast on Wednesday, May 20 from the Nokia Theatre LA LIVE.  The TV Guide network will host a two-hour live Finale Red Carpet special from 6-8PM ET/PT on May 20.

  1. Danny shouldn’t have left it should have been Kris instead.

  2. Satisfying results! Kris and Adam are already winners even if only one of them will be chosen as American Idol for 2009. It will be a pleasure to watch those two talented performers next week. At last, AI has become exciting once again.

  3. Finally! Danny was eliminated!!!

I hate him and his smug face so much.

  4. wow, my prediction is wrong. What did Simon say about this result?

  5. I actually cried! : (

  6. Danny had so much more talent than Kris. In my opinion he lost because of song choice. Except last Tuesday’s performance Kris has never really come on strong like Adam and Danny. My Heart is broken! All I can hope for is another outcome like Daughtry.

  7. I wanted Danny to be in the finale. He has a much better voice than Chris or Adam.

The chorus of that Katy Perry song sounds a lot like a song I’ve heard from ages ago, hmmm.

  8. Danny. You are the winner in my heart!

  9. i was bittersweet about danny leaving. he was one of my favorites from day one, but then again as the show continued, i started to like kris more and more. i just really hope kris wins. i think he 100% deserves it, and i hope adam definitely does NOT win.

  10. Okay, this is crap. Danny was amazing, can’t believe he went home. He was never even in the bottom three. I’m so upset. Whatever, I think he’s better off not winning so he can do his own thing and won’t have to do records just for selling, but insightful good ones cause he’s smart. GO GOKEY!

  11. I love Danny! People say he sounded the same in every performance he made on Idol. Its true. And I love the way he sounds. Really soulful and he melts my heart every time.

He doesn’t need to win this competition to prove he has a great voice. I hope he comes up with an album soon.. :D

  12. Do you think that AT&T actually was able to sway the results?
