TLC Breaks Its Silence: Jon & Kate Plus 8 Season 5 Premiere is Tabloid Themed
The TLC network has remained surprisingly silent over the past few weeks, as their stars of the hit reality show Jon & Kate Plus 8 have been trashed by the media for their collective marital indiscretions. It seems that the entire planet is caught up in the daily round of accusations and rebuttals.
The mothership, TLC, has really been plotting and planning as things have been unfolding. They had hoped to take the high road and cover the subject only at a very high level, but have now decided to turn the one-hour season 5 premiere into a springboard from which to move forward, amid all the nasty business that has been reported.
The premiere will air on May 25, and will address how the tabloid coverage has affected the Gosselin’s marriage. A spokesperson said, “We are in production for season 5 and moving forward as planned, while fully supporting the family and respecting their needs as they work through this challenging time.”
In a thinly veiled response to recent remarks made by Kate’s brother Kevin Kreider and his wife Jodi, TLC went on to say, “This show has always been about a real family dealing with real-life situations, and that will continue to be the case.”
Kate’s bodyguard Steve Neild, also got some help from his employer in managing rumors regarding their relationship – photos and details here. They said, “Tabloid media is doing what people love it for doing; skewing information, misinterpreting, and embracing garbage and gossip. Steve Neild’s and our firm’s client relationships are, always have been, and always will be of the highest professional standard.”
Jon Gosselin has been rumored to be carrying on a three month affair with third-grade school teacher Deanna Hummel. He and his wife Kate Gosselin, despite seriously considering a marital split, have signed on to do 40 episodes for Season 5. See first episode RECAP here – May 25, 2009.
We are guessing that viewership will be up – which is a very good thing for TLC. Kate has had a hard time keeping her nasty side in check when they were merely trying to cope with the care of their eight children. With the added burden of infidelity allegations and Kate’s media career schedule, fans will likely deem this season to be ‘must see TV’.

I really used to like this show and watched it whenever it was on….my husband never cared for it much. He always thought Kate had a nasty edge. Eventually I started seeing what my husband saw and stopped watching. There were too many trips, and too many “procedures,” too much fighting and quips towards each other; Kate loves the fame, Jon wants to fly under the radar.
Perhaps they have grown in different directions, but more than that, I see pride and selfishness corrupting what once was their TEAM mentality… For the sake of their children and family, they need to quit this show.
I would sign on again if I was being paid 3.4 million. The show got very bad last season. Kate was never home and Jon did all the work. I read an article today that TLC paid for the ‘tummy tuck’ that was supposedly a gift from a East Coast plastic surgeon. If this is supposed to be a reality show, at least be upfront about things and don’t make up stories. If Kate wants to protrey herself as a ‘great mother’ then she should stay home and take care of her kids and stop globe trotting. Get your kids out of the spotlight. Really Kate, it is not good for them. They are specticles. If my grandson had his potty training on tv for all to see, or him throwing a temper tantrum, I am sure I would have to have him in therapy.

I am sure it has been pretty difficult to come to terms or ‘reality’ of the union between yourself and Jon. I too, had a husband who cheated (luckily) it was not revealed through magazines or pictures. I found out about his yearlong affair after their daughter was born (I had found out that I was pregnant).
Remember, things happen for a reason….

My God, this family needs to get off the air and back to the kids and each other, more than that-Kate needs to be a mom and get over herself. She is not all that but those children do not need her to do this to them. It is her fault, she alone is to blame. She will have to pay in a very heavy way. This family is being laughed at. They are simply disfunctional. Kate is simply no good, and her children should be taken away from her. If Jon did what was said, it was wrong-but Kate pushed him like pushing a cow to the slughter house. The only thing she cares about is her, not the kids and certainly not Jon. Multiple Blessing, yeah-right, that is a lie, at least for Kate. She may count the children as multiple ways to make money. That is all she cares about. She said she wanted to continue the show, that is more important than her family no matter what lies she tells next. So many I know will not watch the show anymore because of her. Many people at my office, I now join them. Kate-I hope you are really happy, you have distroyed your childrens hopes and dreams. Here is a quarter, call someone who cares now, oh-no one does. You should be locked up.
PLEASE CANCEL this show.Do it for the sake of the kids.I do not condone what Jon has been charged with but I cannot say I blame him either.Kate is a money grubbing,self centered you know what.

Wow Tina…that was harsh! Anytime someone is in the public eye anything that happens can be misconstrued. Everyone should just mind their own business and let these people and all the other stars live thier lives.
Will Deanna Hubbel be on the show? How will they use the children in the program. Surely, they can’t be part of the program while they are discussing their infidelities.
I find it amazing to read people’s comments at how quickly they will throw the first stone as if they’ve never made any mistakes or done anything wrong. What this couple is going through is horribly hard but to have to do so in front of the public makes it even harder. Maybe we should all step back and take the plank out of our own eyes before we start judgeing anyone else.
Who knows, Jon & Kate might just be saying these things for the publicity…how many covers have they been on already? And how much do you think they were paid for those? I’m jaded, I know…sue me.
Table for 12 and the Duggars are my favs now, at least they love each other completely and no infidelity there!

i think that jon feels like he is missing out so now he wants to go out more. kate is normal. just think about it there are plenty of other people who are much more worse then she is. i think the tv show put them out there, it was their choice yes but i think they didnt expect it to be the way it is now. i think they need to work out their problems and remember this was there chioce and they have to deal with it. i wish people wouldn’t judge them since they dont personally know them but hey what can i do about it.
TLC is using this to their advantage and I am most certain that this will boost the shows rating as well as the number of people who will be tuning in. Me myself I wouldn’t miss it for the world. At the same time all Kate is caring about is the money she could care less about Jon. This is all going to her head and I don’t think Jon us happy anymore. He seems to be just a simple guy that wanted simple things in life where as kate only cares about the money. I feel like Jon didn’t even want to have eight children and maybe now he has some regret. (not the children) but the fact that he did have them at such a young age and didn’t quite get to go out and liva his life with little to no responsibility. And if Kate has always been like this I cant help but to wonder what in the world Jon saw in her? I feel Jon wishes that he would’ve waited til he is older. And he is not the best dad in the world either. He jerks and draggs the kids around and screams at ehm for no reason at all. He needs to learn to have a little patience. The Gosselins are not taking care of the kids by themselves they have “helpers” (or so they call them) raising their children while Jon is miserable and Kate is loving being a “celebrity) and shopping and spending rediculous amounts of money on hersself. They need to grow up and if they don’t then they need to have their children taken away from them for exploiting them. That is the way I feel and of course it is just an opinion. Sorry excuse for parents and people. HATE THEM. But wouldn’t miss the show for the world. Lots of laughs for me while watching their pitful life that is simply a LIE!!!!! I am amazed by how quickly the fingers are pointed at Kate. How dare she leave her children at home, IN THE CARE OF THEIR FATHER, and pursue a career that benefits not only her but Jon and the children?
Ridiculous for a woman to want to be something besides a baby breeder. I know, so many people find that unnatural and repellant in a woman. Would people reactions be as harsh and critical if it was Jon globetrotting on media excursions to flog his latest book?
And why excuse Jon so quickly for breaking his vows? Because his wife screeches and nags? Jon is a grown man, if he wanted out, he should have left, not cheated. Cheating is cowardly and no one is “pushed” into it. Each cheater makes his (or her) own choice.
The thing I feel is the most hypocritical is that they claim to be such a “Church going” family. Their website is full of “prayers” and “offerings” for other people. REALLY??? I guess it’s time to start practicing what you preach, Gosselins!
I used to watch this show all the time. The kids were my reason for watching. I no longer watch the show because of Kate. I find her to be very self centered and I didn’t particularly care for the way she treated Jon. Don’t get me wrong, I can understand a family having it’s ups and downs, and I can understand the difficulties of living in a fishbowl. What I can’t see is the way Kate treats Jon. It seems that all the attention has slowly been shifted away from Jon and the kids and more so on Kate. The show is Jon & Kate Plus 8 not the Kate and Family show. Maybe if the producers of the show stuck with the original concept of the Family, then all this infidelity may not be there. Frankly, I have 3 grown children and I don’t know how either of them would have the time for any extra marital flings if it weren’t for all the money TLC is giving them. They can afford babysitters, bodyguards, house keepers, I guess that money really isn’t everything. I wish both of them the best of luck with their marriage but I think the damage has already been done. Chalk another one up for the media.
I have always had such respect for TLC and the family shows that they air with such excellent,caring attention to the “realistic” views of the family. THAT OPINION OF TLC HAS CHANGED!! I am apalled of the fact that this family has now become “all about the money and financial well being of the family, and that TLC is allowing it to happen. I know they are all about the ratings and money the show will produce…and this is exactly why I am appalled. I can’t say that I can truly respect TLC’s judgement anymore. My family and friends feel the same. As for Jon and Kate…It’s time to call it a day…and give up this farce on TV and really focous on what’s really really important and that is your children and your marriage if there is anything left to celvige. People can keep pointing fingers and it’s true we have seen alot of tension between the 2 on previous shows, and I’m sure it is all very real…but life is not perfect nor is every marriage and having that many children can and will cause space between 2 married people. But it’s time to walk away from the media, including the TV program…and I’m directing that at Kate…and focus on how this will long term affect your children. Please don’t tell me that they are not financially secure after all the seasons tapings..come on …do the math …25,000-45,000 an episode and 46 episodes per season and now in season 5. They have enough savings to go back to their normal lives and try to see if it is mendable. And if not, they will be fine financially both of them and for the children, no need to persue this life in the media. Hopefully, the hurt and blame will be harnessed and they will find a way to mend the fences. for the sake of their children at least.
I keep waiting for someone to shout APRIL FOOLS. This whole thing is just so hurt full to the family. Why cant people celebrate their success rather than beat them down. And SHAME on Jodi and Kevin for getting caught up in all the hype’ Didn’t Jon and Kate name a child after you. May God forgive you for your bitterness.
Please take this off the air. No one needs to see these children suffer for their parents greed. These parents chose to have these wonderful children so take care of them without exploiting their lives. A christian family would put their children First not themselves and their greed. I thought their was a difference between the Octomom and these parents but apparently not. Take them off the air, someone has to take the childrens needs into account quit being soooooo greedy these are innocent children, whose parents have made mistakes but we do not need to see this family suffering on TV. Jon and Kate might have a chance if they walk away from the public eye and go back to depending on each other!

GOD knows the whole story, & HE is a Faithful, Loving, & Forgiving GOD….HIS Promises will returned 10 fold ! So who are WE to judge?! GOD’S WORD says: “Let him, who is without sin, cast the first stone”, & BELIEVE ME, WE are NOT without sin, & blameless! So shame on all who feel they need to dish on this family….”thinking maybe it makes one FEEL better, b/c one’s own life is full of negativity, so to fill-in the void of their lives, one looks & points fingers, wags tongues, & TRIES to make others, such as Kate & Jon & family feel bad, pointing out all their “wrong-doings”, when one has MANY MORE they they can handle ” We love Jon, Kate, & family….so keep them on the show!! Kate constantly barks orders at Jon, demeans him no matter who hears, makes insulting – (just kidding?) – remarks, and shows him no respect. Even in the last episode, she interrupted him and refused to allow him to speak for himself. This is a man who has been psychologically abused and victimized by her dysfunctional power in the relationship – and on the show. She appears to be an abuser on many levels – psychological and emotional. If she lived in Texas, she would be reported to CPS and they kids would all be in foster care…
I agree with the person above TLC should pull the show. Jon and Kate need to get off the air and work on their marriage. NO ONE is perfect!!!!!
honestly people, you cant not blame them for wanting money. they have 8 kids to put through school and college. i do however believe Kate is getting very self-centered and honestly i dont balme Jon and i dont believe he cheated. i simply believe he was with a female friend. if i had 8 kids and my husband was out of twon for a few days i would want to get a sitter and go out and have a bit of fun. it was NEVER proven that he cheated OR that kate cheated. and the kids have been in the stoplight all of their life. i think it would HURT them if the camreas just went away. they think of the crew as family. and although the children make the famiyl money they have a large family which means they need a large amount of money. with only jon working i think thats impossible. please jon and kate dont quit the show i love watching these kids and your family grow. and please dont lose faith in each other.

With all the publicity that the story is getting especially since she came forward, I can’t believe that what she did was for the best interest of Jon and kates marriage nor for the kids. It seems a little spiteful to me and jealous. This is a family whether Jon or Kate cheated. We all should be hoping for the best and praying for the best. Hopefully through counsel and prayer they can work all of this out. This isn’t time to do the easy thing and pull back but it is time to fight for their family’s unity. Divorce is not a cure, it only scars all the people involved. Children are involved, young innocent kids and we should be as supportive as possible. This is not time to point fingers at anyone. It is unfair to say that Kate brought all of this on her self! They both made vows to eachother to be faithful through good times and bad. Marriage is HARD WORK. Jon and Kate are both hurting, you can hear it in their voices and see it in their faces. I just wanted to reach out and hug Kate after watching their show tonight. They need to take time alone and remember what it was that brought them together 10 years ago. They need to become each other’s best friends again. Those children need both of their parents, and they need them together. Jon and Kate need to get back to their faith and lean on it and God through this difficult time. They have a lot of work to do and I feel guilty watching them on TV when they should be away from the public eye working on their marriage! We are praying for their family.
Why do people believe those silly maginizes at the check out line? Not one of them can think about telling the truth. Jon cheated on Kate. Kate cheated on Jon. Who really cares? The show was and should still be about those cute little babies. Babies that to me are God send. So, everybody lets focus on them and pray that they stay healthy and strong. And lets put the media out of business. If Kate is a witch with a b, so be it. She has that right. And if Jon has cheated, well… there’s NO reason that. No matter how big of a b the woman is. But, if he can live with himself, let him and we will let God handle the best way HE sees fit.
But, what I’m saying ‘Jon & Kate Plus 8′ fans is lets not let the media win on this family like they have on other famous person. Good example of those mags. are–I remember reading back in the middle ’90’s that Reba was pregnant with twins. Guess what? Today she still haven’t delivered those twins. Why? because, she was NEVER pregnant, since she gave birth to Shelby. And trust me, I’m a major Reba fan. Those mags. are nothing but page after page of lies or twisted tells.

I also used to adore this “reality” show, when it was real. A family struggling with normal family problems but full of love. Now it’s a 1.3 million dollar house, free trips, luxury hotels, spas, plastic surgery, hair plugs, etc. So RIDICULOUS! If I wanted to see that I’d watch Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous , Cribs or Paris Hilton clips. Kate has went from nit picking to being downright vicious. And Jon..puhleeese, do ya think this 23 year old would look at you twice if you weren’t famous, but just Jon, unemployed father of 8! I don’t think so. She’s afta da money & fame dummy! Which she’s getting & enjoying too. The brother & sister in law are angry because they were part of this but were squeezed out so it’s time for revenge. Kate grew up poor & wants NOTHING to do with her past, family & all. She’s living the high life, too much. The older girls are already acting like rich deserving spoiled brats, especially Mady. This is what they see. The kids will suffer, mark my words. They will pay when they are older. But Jon & Kate will have their money & that’s all they care about. I used to belive they truly cared about & wanted what was best for the kids & each other. And I thought Nadya Suleman was the bad one. Shame!

I’ve watched that show since the first episode and I love it… everything changed last season when I saw that Jon was no longer a player in the show. He was not happy. How come Kate did not see it? In front of our eyes, we saw the relashonship deteriorated. WE SAW IT. So don’t act surprise or offended, please. Kate, please cancel your contract with TLC, save this family and go see a mariage counceler with Jon. You could write a book in a few years ans make a fortune. AND YOU AMERICAN PEOPLE, STOP WATCHING THAT SHOW; IT’S THE ONLY THING THAT CAN SAVE THIS FAMILY.
what I see in Kate is a mother who loves her kids so much shes always so stressed trying to do things for them like making sure they have well prepared meals, holiday parties and so on. I feel sad that everyone judges her in such a negative way. I just feel she deserves so much more credit for all that does for that family. Jon looks like he hates his life and, at times we all do however suck it up sucker- those babies need you. Kate would like help from him not her always having TO ASK him to help..he should know by now what kind of mom Kate is and what kind of help is expected. Shame on him for thinking he can just “quit at life”
jon and kate should get off the air (and stay off) work on their marriage,children and as the said their christanity hopefully they will all come together once again and become JUST The Gosslin Family with 8 kids. if it works out, great if not, at least they gave it a good darn try….
I feel that Kate would push one of the kids over if they blocked her camera line. This show is a train wreck. I used to watch it but they are both horrible people.
I believe that TLC should be held accountable for airing this ship wreck! I mornally love tlc! From what not to wear to the duggers and little people…but if TLC is so dead set on showing a family fall apart and letting this woman destroy the lives of her children simply for MORE moeny than I can find another channel to watch! I say..ban tlc util they step up and put an end to Kates terror.
My personal thoughts about Jon and Kate is that he has been amazing to not rip her a new one in public. You can tell he LOVES those kids and bites his tongue more than most men would. If he found someone who did not belittle him, constantly inturpt and correct him and who allowed him to feel like a man..then I can see why he felt drawn to this woman. Imagin, if she is this contoling and ugly on screen, I doubt she ever give him any decent “intimate” time. He is only human. And dont give me crap about “is that reason to chea?t”…a spouce with holding love, sex, intimaticy, time, togetherness…is JUST as wrong. And yes..I am a woman who believes that with holding is wrong!
Come on people, none of us is perfect. We are all human, and we ALL make mistakes. However, the entire world is not witness to them. I believe that both Jon and Kate love their children. Sure, Kate is a bit rigid, but , it she weren’t, that household would fall to pieces. She’s obsessive compulsive, and Jon is a bit to laid back. Raising a child is hard work, can you imagine having to care for 8 of them at a time! And as far as the money issue goes, come on, it takes a lot of money to provide for their basics needs, never mind college for 8 children. They are doing the best they can, and kicking them when they are down is just wrong. So until you’ve walked in their shoes, you really have no right to judge. Jon, Kate, and family, you are in my prayers. GOD BLESS YOUR BEAUTIFUL FAMILY!!!!!!!!
I use to love this show as it was so different from the other reality shows, it was a family who were honest, hard working, went to church and were trying to support their huge family. I was happy to see them able to provide for their family better.
Sure Kate was bossy, but they seemed to love each other and work well together.
Unfortunately they got caught up with the money and fame and lost sight of what was important each other and their values as a family.
Kate, should have woken up at the end of series 4 as it was very obvious Jon was deeply unhappy.
Whether he had an affair or not, he certainly showed poor judgement. Now here he is with pierced ears, a Haley Davidson and loving the night life and excited about his new future.
They both need to wake up and start putting each other first. For the sake of their children. This divorce will destroy the children, and nothing else they do will make up for that.
I am done with this show, if they don’t start to rebuild their marriage and family.
TLC I am so disappointed in you, making money off other peoples misery. Only after much flack have you have taken their show off until August, hoping I am sure after that long absent more people will be tune in.
I think that it is very pathetic, and shows the true color of you people, who wrote all these negative opinions on this subject, because that is all that it is, is opinions. My question to all of you is, are you all without blemishes, and perfect? There is only one that is perfect, and only one that will judge us all one day, you all need to get a life yourself, and not judge the gosselins, why sweep around someone elses back door, when yours most likely needs sweeping around, as the beginning of the show starts out, ” It may be a crazy life, but it is their life.” Amen to that. I like the show, and I feel that it should continue, but if it doesn”t, things will work out for the best for the gosselins. Shame on the negatism about this mess.
