Paramount Pictures has confirmed that Gossip Girl star Chace Crawford will indeed star in the remake of Footloose.  The actor will be taking on the lead role of Ren McCormack, which was originally played by Kevin Bacon back in 1984.

The coveted part was originally offered to High School Musical star Zac Efron, who dropped out of the project in March because he felt it wasn’t a good fit for him.

The Footloose remake will start shooting in March 2010.  Others jockeying for plum rolls include Hayden Panettiere, Amanda Bynes and Dancing with the Stars professional dancer Julianne Hough, who have all reportedly auditioned but there has been nothing official yet regarding who may have made the cut.
