Lana Clarkson murdered by Phil Spector

The 2003 shooting death of actress Lana Clarkson in Phil Spector’s Alhambra, California home led to his being charged with murder in the second degree.  His first trial ended in a mistrial; his second trial resulted in a conviction of second degree murder on April 13, 2009.  He was remanded into custody at that time, while awaiting sentencing – details of crime and photos available here.

Spector was sentenced on May 29, 2009 to 19 years for killing Clarkson – see his ‘bald’ prison mugshot here.  He will be eligible for parole when he is 88 years old.  On hand to witness the formal sentencing was Lana Clarkson’s mother Donna Clarkson.  She accepted a $17,000 check from Spector’s lawyer to pay for her daughter’s funeral expenses – as mandated by Judge Larry Paul Fidler.   Also in the courtroom was aspiring singer and actress Rachelle Short, who has been married to Spector since September 2006.

The 69 year old record producer and songwriter produced and co-wrote the 1965 song You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’ for The Righteous Brothers.  It is listed by BMI as the song with the most U.S. air plays in the 20th century.
