Rob, Arnie & Dawn Show ‘Pulled’ After Transgender Rant (VIDEO)

Rob, Arnie & Dawn in hot water

The Rob, Arnie & Dawn Show on KRXQ in Sacramento has been sanctioned this week for remarks made on the May 28 show that angered members of their listening audience, as well as advertisers and the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, who demanded an apology that the most vocal of the co-hosts refused to give.

The topic being discussed was transgender teens and radio host Arnie States said, “If my son, God forbid, if my son put on a pair of high heels, I would probably hit him with one of my shoes.”

Co-hosts Rob Williams and Dawn Rossi make up the other members of the show.  The trio were collectively engaged in a 30-minute conversation in which the two male hosts referred to transgender people as “freaks” and idiots”, while Rossi actually took an opposing viewpoint.    Most vocal was Arnie, who also said, “You know, my favorite part about hearing these stories about the kids in high school, who the entire high school caters around, lets the boy wear the dress.  I look forward to when they go out into society and society beats them down.  And they end up in therapy.”

Advertisers Snapple, Sonic, Chipotle Grill, Bank of America, Verizon, Carl’s Jr, Wells Fargo, AT&T and McDonald’s have all reportedly pulled their advertising from KRXQ.  Nissan indicates they will let their ad contract expire and not renew.

As a result, KRXQ, Rob, Arnie and Dawn have issued a frank apology on their website:

“To our loyal Rob, Arnie and Dawn followers, we have failed you.  As a show, as people, as broadcasters, we have simply failed on almost every level.  We presented our opinions on a very sensitive subject in a hateful, childish and crude fashion; and then, given the opportunity to retract those remarks, we defended them.”  Read the rest of their statement here.

The show will remain off the air until Thursday, when Arnie, Rob and Dawn will try to make things right with GLAAD and several other groups that they have angered with their earlier statements.    The show normally airs Monday -Friday from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.  They will speak specifically to the situation when they return to the airwaves at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday June 11.

  1. They were not pulled from the air. GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT!! They, RAD, chose to not broadcast until Thursday June 11th as it says in their online letter to listeners!!! So there WERE NOT PULLED FROM THE AIR! They will resume broadcasting as stated in their letter and at that time they will do their online apology!!!
and furthermore let me add that Rob, Arnie and Dawn, have raised millions and millions of dollars in the 12 yrs since they have been on the air, in doing fundraisers for VARIOUS ORGANIZATIONS. They have many charitable organizations that rely on them each year for the fund rasing monies. IF they are forced to leave the air, then not only will those charities be effected, but also everyone else behind the scenes that works for the show. Its a trickerly effect and does not just effect Rob Arnie and Dawn. It effects ALOT OF PEOPLE WHO BE OUT OF A JOB. It effects charities who will lose hundreds of thousands of dollars each year that count on that money to help support that organization.
So before you post something of this magitude online, then GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT FIRST!!!

    Thank you.

  2. I’m so tired of everyone being so offended. It is the biggest form of bigotry and everyone hides behind it. GLAAD, the ACLU, NAACP, (INSERT GROUP NAME HERE).. They all do it and when it goes against something they believe in or something they want one-sided, they try to intimidate sponsors etc… I say F%% you to the lot of them. It’s like dealing with a radical muslim terrorist that wants only to kill you. Dialogue does not work. My case in point is look at those who are considered the “Religeous” sect. They truly believe in what they believe in, yet they are silenced and their freedom of speech goes unprotected. They believe that homosexuality is a sin and that many of the “politically corect” issues of today are taboo. It’s a flat out crock. We pass laws to let gays marry, yet we can’t say the pledge of allegiance in school because of one non-believer (trouble making idiot is more like it) We don’t want to progress as a society. We just want things our way, and our way only. I believe in Karma and there are many conservatives and liberals that have a whole lot of chaos coming to them one day. Now go hug your neighbor and accept them for who they are whether they are black, white, brown, yellow, green, purple, gay, straight, etc.. because after all the left says they accept everyone and the right states Jesus loves everyone, so quit making excuses and love one another!

  3. In response to Calidreams, this person does make a point in regards to insuring that before posting a newsworthy article, all facts must be accurate. TRUE, that R.A.D. won’t be airing their show until Thursday morning, and TRUE, that their letter on the site states that it is not a letter of apology…However just because these radio hosts do various fundraisers, does not make their hateful remarks towards those who are transgendered, right. As public figures and popular hosts with hundreds of listeners throughout Sacramento, influenced by RAD’s show, these individuals should know better than to make such hurtful comments that only perpetuate negativity, hate and discrimination for those who are different.

  4. unbelievable ! what ever happened to free speech people ! dont like what you are hearing then turn it ! anyone who listens to their show knows that they joke alot and never advocate violence ! this politically correct crap is getting old . these people that push this are uneducated people who probably have no job and are sitting around searching for people that do not have the same beliefs they have ! get real . and as for this gay trans whatever . who gives a sh…. . arnie is correct ! 90% are freaks! take a look at some of the marches they put on ! half naked , hair wacked out , they act out sex acts and in some cases actually have sex , extremely flamboyant , talk with lisps, list goes on ! and they wonder why people dont except them ! figure it out people !!!!!!!! act normal .if you are gay so be it . just dont push it on me . and thats just what the majority are trying to do . oh and i ll say it again …. act like a normal human being ! not some painted up bouffant out of control flamboyant sexual deviant !!! its amazing ! if you are black or any other race , gay , transgender , etc , you can say and get away with anything . if youre a white man and say one word that you may not agree with , all hell breaks loose . one thing is for sure ! i will be voting against gay m arriage next time its come up ! they have pushed it to far now . i hope others feel and will do the same . whats this world coming to when you can speek your word or give an opinion without some politically correct looser causing problems ! the more that these people cause problems the more im going to fight against them . i dont think they realize that they are making it worse for themselves , constantly causing problems for others ! especially the gays . the more they scream the more people will not except them .

  5. Wow, go to school, you illiterate idiot. Whatever group of rude rednecks takes over after Rob and Arnie are deservedly fired, they can raise money too, I’m sure. And the people behind the scenes need not be fired, just Arnie and Rob.

  6. It is true that they decided to not broadcast until Thursday (although im sure it was influenced by the station) But you know, i still think this is rediculous. ITS ENTERTAINMENT. i really dont agree with the drastic measures people are taking to get an apology. This IS similar to the Don Imus incident which i remember thinking was also rediculous. Political correctness. That is the death of creation. Maybe they went too far. or maybe they felt like they had the right to talk. Its my opinion, But i think this is . . . dissapointing. I only hope people will calm down and laugh about themselves and the rest of the world.
    Im sorry.

  7. Its so absurd how out of hand this whole thing has gotten. I believe this is a case of free speech, and also knowing the show. If you have ever listened to this show you realize they say offensive things that are reflective of society. its bigotry, its hate speech, but its freedom. it truly is the offensive speech that needs the protecting.

Someone said that Rob and arnie should know better than to say hurtful words that perpetuate negativity, know better? is this illegal now? do you realize how much of our entertainment business is generated through hurtful things being said? we both know that the only reason american idol is as big as it is-is because of simon, who is known for saying things that ‘perpetuate negativity’

would talk radio even be able to exist if we didnt have right wingers going off on lefties constantly?

sure rob called trans kids freaks and idiots, he said the same thing about obama. has anyone heard rob and arnie talk about dakota fanning? jesus christ. im so amazed that a couple of negative comments against some confused people were blown so out of proportion.

  8. Get over it America. Our society is way to touchy. We live in a free country to live as we choose and speak what is on our minds. Whether we like it or not. We have soldier’s STILL fighting (and have been fighting for years & many decades) for our FREEDOM. Our freedom to be FREE and choose. Everyone needs to get off their high horse and calm down.
I think we have better things to worry about then a few radio hosts talking crap about someone. What about our economy, our safety, AMERICA! We have better things to worry about. Get your head out of your ass America.
    Thanks!

  9. So I guess their saying the comments they made were just a joke? Do you think teens listening to their show on the way to school who happen to hate gay people, would think this was free license to hurt a gay student? Perhaps. They crossed the line. I enjoy Dawn. The other two can be funny most of time, but apparently they lost a huge number of sponsors. As Dr. Phil would say, “How is that working for you?”

  10. we’re all freaks, far from perfect.get over it !!!
i wouldn’t buy from those sponsors anyway…get better one’s..i will listen twice as much….

  11. first its miss california ! now its rob ,arnie and dawn ! who’s next ?

  12. Entertainment in the media is a reflection of society at large. The Rob, Arnie and Dawn Show has pushed the envelope since it’s inception; it’s one of the reasons that they have endured in the dinosaur that is the radio industry. To think that “this time they’ve gone too far” is hilarious.

The RAD show is also extremely popular in the Reno/Sacramento area and they command a loyal legion of listeners, not just because of the the content of the show itself, but because of the numerous local charities and fundraisers that they put on, raising millions of dollars for various causes, including a local children’s hospital.

I would imagine that most of the “outrage” is coming from people who are not familiar with the show, it’s content, or the characters portrayed on the show. I used the word “characters” on purpose because their on-air personas are not who they are in real life. They are like actors, except they are on the radio. Their charitable contributions should be more than enough evidence to support this as fact.

This whole nontraversy just goes to show just how weak and sensitive a growing number of the American public is getting. If everyone would just stop being so easily offended over words that have no real power, we could focus on real issues, such as a dieing economy, over-taxation, a ever-growing government, and the fact that social security is about to be depleted, just to name a few.

To me, the RAD show is a brief, cherished note of entertainment before the start of a long, grueling workday. I have enjoyed listening to it every single day since I first discovered it. Tomorrow I will be listening, not to hear an apology, but for entertainment. It will be a sad day indeed if Rob indeed neuters the format of the show for the sake of remaining on air with KRXQ in the Sacramento market.

  13. Some years back when Howard Stern got pulled from all clear channel affiliates for show content. I can recall tuning into the RAD show thinking they’d talk about it and be sympathetic to Howard’s plight being fellow broadcasters walking that razor thin line of censorship. But instead, they were all for it and thought his removal was justified. One of the quotes was: “This is a job, when you go to work you can’t just do whatever you want and expect to get away with it. There are rules and guidelines in place that you have to follow or you’re going to lose your job.”

Well son of a bitch, just look at them now. Now they’re the ones crying free speech. It’s a very satisfying feeling knowing that they’re gonna have to eat those words. High and mighty Rob’s fake apology on the “please don’t hurt us” show tomarrow is gonna make for some entertaining radio. I love it when arrogant pricks sell out everything they’ve preached about for years just to save their sorry ass.

  14. Support Rob and Arnie and contact the advertisers; don’t let the vocal minority run this country.
all of the sponsors emails can be found here

ironically any clicking on Google the advertisers of this web page take money from the people that dropped support of RAD and gives it to webmaster so click away.

  15. I’m sorry. A radio show does not “voluntarily” shut down on its’ own. This show was pulled from the air, by the station because of the sponsors, whether you want to believe that or not. Sponsors have already pulled their funding And unfortunately, this issue has nothing to do with free speech. This has to do with money. The reason this show is making a public apology on the air is for the money. If they were really concerned with free speech, they would have left the radio station and started their own radio station. Then they would use their own money and say whatever they want to say. This is about freedom of choice. Not freedom of speech. The sponsor has a choice. Do I give my money to you or someone else? The show has a choice. Do I agree to take your money and play nice, or do I piss you off and watch you walk across the street to some other venture. It’s that simple. If you’re going to get on your soap box about the freedom of speech, I would suggest you go back to history class and get your own facts straight. As for the letter on the website, consider this. Everything posted on the internet must be true. right? If you believe that then you are a complete moron. I agree that a majority of people in the world need to get a grip. But, we have not even reached the extreme yet, regarding who is offended by what. The pendulum is not going to swing back to center for a very long time.

  16. First of all, I think that this whole thing has been blown way iout of proportion. They are comedy. There are many stand up comedians that say offensive things, but they do not get the backlash like RAD did. There is such a thing as free speech people. You can simply turn the knob of the radio off. The thing is, they had apologized for their actions and noted they were wrong for defending their opinions. If anyone has ever listened to the show, you would know not to take them very seriously. I think America has much worse things to worry about rather than some toilet humor. People in this country will find anything to take offense to and run with. Drama Drama Drama. Get over it people.

  17. Rob and Arnie have made comments that are terribly offensive to many walks of life, so this is not the first. They actually criticize and hang up on listeners that call in with different opinions. It is true……if you don’t like what they say then you don’t have to listen. However, this apology would never have happened if the sponsors did not pull their ads and the radio station did not lose all of that money. How on earth do you think a radio station survives? ………Money! Looks to me like the Rob, Arnie and Dawn show is bowing down and doing whatever it takes to keep their jobs. So much for the free speech………

  18. I really can’t stand organizations like GLAAD, and other watchdog groups. Groups that started out good, but now take everything out of wack. For those of you that think Arnie was seriously advocating child abuse. You are idiots. And, I don’t think that the GLAAD gave a damn about that. They were only mad when they made comments against being gay, and or being transgender.

I have to also say. I really don’t like the way this all ended. Did this group deserve an apology? In my view. NO! This is a radio morning show. They entertain. They offend. They even say so on their website. The only reason they had to give an apology. Was, because of the wussy advertisers. That are scared by groups such as GLAAD. I have gay friends, who tell some of the best gay jokes I have ever heard. However, according to the GLAAD. If I being a heterosexual told them. I would be labeled a gay hater, or a bigot. Face it, it is the advertisers, the stupid people, who listened to this. And, took these comments seriously that are endangering REAL freedom of speech.

Groups such as GLAAD say political correctness is good. I say, it is a form of censorship in the worst possible way. Because, we acctually welcome censorship. Under a different name. Sooner, or later. That will get out of control. We will bow down to what is not offensive. Vs what is actual truth.

I was in hopes that Rob Arnie, and Dawn would not apologize. Because, they really did nothing wrong. But, they all did. In a way. I guess I can’t fault them for wanting to keep their jobs. But, in another way. I kinda wish they would have made a bolder, and deeper statement.

  19. rob, arnie and dawn suck. They should’ve been yanked from their spot long ago for the simple crime of being mediocre. However, given that they perfectly reflect the mediocrity of a city such as sacramento, they fit perfectly, don’t they?
They’ve never pushed any envelopes, nor broadened any horizons. They’re about as original as a bon jovi guitar solo and just as inspiring as well. Too bad truly original and funny personalities will continually be overlooked, ignored and cast aside as the bland and marginally intelligent mainstream continue to rally around such useless yokels as these irrelevant splotches.
    love,
    dave
