The Rob, Arnie & Dawn Show on KRXQ in Sacramento has been sanctioned this week for remarks made on the May 28 show that angered members of their listening audience, as well as advertisers and the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, who demanded an apology that the most vocal of the co-hosts refused to give.

The topic being discussed was transgender teens and radio host Arnie States said, “If my son, God forbid, if my son put on a pair of high heels, I would probably hit him with one of my shoes.”

Co-hosts Rob Williams and Dawn Rossi make up the other members of the show. The trio were collectively engaged in a 30-minute conversation in which the two male hosts referred to transgender people as “freaks” and idiots”, while Rossi actually took an opposing viewpoint. Most vocal was Arnie, who also said, “You know, my favorite part about hearing these stories about the kids in high school, who the entire high school caters around, lets the boy wear the dress. I look forward to when they go out into society and society beats them down. And they end up in therapy.”

Advertisers Snapple, Sonic, Chipotle Grill, Bank of America, Verizon, Carl’s Jr, Wells Fargo, AT&T and McDonald’s have all reportedly pulled their advertising from KRXQ. Nissan indicates they will let their ad contract expire and not renew.

As a result, KRXQ, Rob, Arnie and Dawn have issued a frank apology on their website:

“To our loyal Rob, Arnie and Dawn followers, we have failed you. As a show, as people, as broadcasters, we have simply failed on almost every level. We presented our opinions on a very sensitive subject in a hateful, childish and crude fashion; and then, given the opportunity to retract those remarks, we defended them.” Read the rest of their statement here.

The show will remain off the air until Thursday, when Arnie, Rob and Dawn will try to make things right with GLAAD and several other groups that they have angered with their earlier statements. The show normally airs Monday -Friday from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. They will speak specifically to the situation when they return to the airwaves at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday June 11.
