Sidney Greenbush, child star of Little House on the Prairie, is dealing with her husband William “Rocky” Foster‘s suicide just days after telling him she wanted a divorce.

Sidney and her twin sister Lindsay Greenbush shared the role of Carrie Ingalls from 1974-1982 on Little House on the Prairie. Sidney married Foster, a veterinarian and horse breeder in 2000. The couple lived on a ranch in Visalia, CA.

On May 3, Sidney, 39, told her husband of nine years that she wanted a divorce. Two days later, Rocky, 55, called the former child star and said he was going to kill himself.

Sidney called the Sheriff’s Department, but a family friend found Rocky lying by a corral behind their home with a gunshot wound to the head. Despite efforts to save him, he died at a nearby hospital.

“Rocky was a real cowboy of some renown, and they were a very down-to-earth couple,” a neighbor told Star magazine. “But some problems had developed between them recently — and it’s heartbreaking to think it came to the conclusion that it did.”

“My heart goes out to Rocky’s family and Sidney,” the neighbor said. “Even with all their problems, I know she cared so deeply for her husband. But she’s a strong woman, and I hope she’ll be able to pick up the pieces and move on from this tragedy.”
