Last Thursday night was a big night for actor Michael Douglas, who was honored by the American Film Institute at Sony Studios in Culver City, California.  Douglas accepted the 37th Life Achievement Award for his work in the industry.

The 64-year-old actor has too long a list of films to mention, starting his career back in the early 70’s on crime drama The Streets of San Francisco.  Douglas has earned an Emmy, a Golden Globe and is a two-time Oscar winner.

The ceremony was attended by some heavy-hitters in the film industry, including Sharon Stone, Warren Beatty, Annette Benning and Jack Nicholson.

Michael and his father Kirk Douglas were the first ‘father-son’ duo to win the award–Kirk was honored back in 1991.

Douglas’ wife, actress Catherine Zeta-Jones, took the stage to perform a number from her hit movie Chicago.  Another treat for the audience was a surprise appearance by Bob Dylan.
