The funeral for actress Farrah Fawcett was held in Los Angeles this afternoon. Her long time partner Ryan O’Neal was one of nine pallbearer who helped to carry the flower laden casket. He and Farrah’s long time friend Alana Stewart entered the church together, both wearing black.

Redmond O’Neal was able to the attend the 4:00 p.m. service at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church after receiving a three hour pass from Judge Jane Godfrey. He was dressed in a suit and wore dark sunglasses.

The couple’s son has been incarcerated at Pitchess Detention Center in Castaic since April 5, 2009, undergoing intensive treatment for drug addiction, as ordered by the court. A judge gave him one last opportunity to get his life back on track. He will go to prison if he is unable to finish his current program successfully.

Ryan O’Neal’s other son Griffin O’Neal was photographed outside the church but was barred from entering the service. He has been estranged from his father since February 2007, after wildly swinging a fireplace poker and grazing him several times. Ryan O’Neal fled to his bedroom to retrieve a handgun.

Ryan O’Neal fired several shots into a banister, reportedly to frighten Griffin, and ultimately ended up being arrested for assault. Griffin added fuel to the fire by giving an interview to People magazine, indicating that the only way to survive was to get away from his “really messed up family”.

EXCLUSIVE UPDATE: We subsequently heard from Joanna Berry, Griffin O’Neal’s wife. She wanted to set the record straight. She was present on the night of the attack. She says that it was Ryan O’Neal who was brandishing the fireplace poker that ended up striking Berry on the head. She ended up receiving facial fractures and required 10 stitches. She claims that it is Ryan O’Neal who put a false spin on the story to protect his image. SEE DETAILS HERE.
