American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi married Mike McCuddy on July 5, 2009.  The couple met two years ago when he was constructing a house next to hers in Prospect Harbor, Maine.   They announced their engagement in December 2008.

DioGuardi lives in an 1800’s sea captain’s coastal home overlooking the ocean.  She told Portland Magazine that frequent visits to the property help to keep her grounded.

The nuptials were held at the Prospect Harbor United Methodist Church.  The 38-year-old bride wore a strapless, mermaid-style Vera Wang gown and reportedly was sporting $250,000 in bling.  She wore a 30-carat diamond and platinum bracelet and 20-carat chandelier earrings.

A group of 30 close friends and family members gathered to witness the brief ceremony.   DioGuardi’s fellow Idol judges were not in attendance.

Not long ago, DioGuardi shared with People magazine the fact that McCuddy, a 34-year-old building contractor, likes to see her without her makeup.  She explained, “He’s from Maine.  He likes that earthy girl, just-out-of-the-shower look.”
