A Nightmare on Elm Street has a new Freddy Krueger.

Academy Award-nominated Jackie Earle Haley takes over the role made famous by Robert Englund.  Haley has appeared in numerous films, and started his career as a child actor in “The Bad News Bears” as Kelly Leak.

Platinum Dunes is reviving the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise, which revolves around teenagers being terrorized in their nightmares by the ghost of Freddy Krueger, a deceased child killer.

Today Platinum Dunes released the first promotional photo for the film, giving us a glimpse at Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy Krueger.  The photo is shrouded in shadows, giving us a creepy yet unclear view of the villain.  A second photo is promised for later today.

The film hits theaters in 2010.
