Michael Vick mugshotMichael Vick conditionally reinstated into the NFL

Michael Vick, convicted of running a dogfighting ring, has served his 18 month sentence and will be eligible to play NFL football under a conditional reinstatement according to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.  The announcement was made on Monday, July 27, 2009, just one week after Vick was released from prison.

In a video statement, Goodell said that the athlete is free to take part in preseason practices, workouts and meetings and is able to appear in the final two preseason games.  Vick will be eligible for full reinstatement in Week 6 of the season, October 18-19.

The former Atlanta Falcon’s quarterback was suspended in August 2007 for bankrolling a dogfighting operation.

Goodell instructed Vick, “I urge you to take full advantage of the resources available to support you and dedicate yourself to rebuilding your life and your career.  If you do this, the NFL will support you.”

According to Sports Illustrated, four teams have said they are not interested; they are the Falcons, Giants, Jets and Cowboys.

  1. What this sick excuse for man did to those dog was so unbelievable disgusting and cruel, if you read about the details I swear it will make you want to do the same to him, he’s a hideous example of a disturbed POS. There are not words to even begin to tell you how he enjoyed torturing and making those poor animals suffer.

When and if he is signed to a team, which is ridiculous he’s allowed to be in the NFL again. I urge everyone to complain to the advertisers in terms of a boycott of products, hit them where it hurts and he can be driven to ground. He doesn’t deserve any chances after what he did.
