 miley cyrus pole dance

Miley Cyrus performed her new single “Party in the USA” at the Teen Choice Awards in Los Angeles Sunday night.  Although the show doesn’t air until Monday night, a video of Miley’s performance, complete with a pole dance atop an ice cream cart has made it’s way onto YouTube.

  1. Pole dancing? Maybe she does send her weird, old-guy stalkers secret messages . . .

  2. O M G
Uh oh…One pole could lead to another.Levi Johnston’s in town.

  3. ok number one..
15 year old dancing on a poll.
    -nuff said-

    number two..
her shirt was hangin down and her freakin whole bra was showing!!

uhh,, HELLO? i think i need to have a talk with her..
    thats NOT cute!

  4. I was so appauled by her actions during the Teen Choice Awards. Now, she is a childrens performer, and she has told the world she is a good girl, but she has prozen herself wrong. Her shirt revealed her whole bra (has she ever herd of clear?) and yes, that was a pole dance, which was quite disturbing and stripperish. This is not what I would want my younger sister seeing, for Miley is a suposide rolemodle, sadly, she did for she watched the awards with me. Miley’s parents just watched and cheered as miley made herself look like a Britney Spears. I know my parents would have pulled me off that stage! I never really like her music but i had respect for her; but, that respect is gone.

  5. One dip while holding onto a pole does not a pole dance make. In fact, it looked more like she was holding onto the pole to keep from falling while the cart was being moved around. If she had been swinging on it, spreading her legs and flashing everyone, and holding all sorts of provocative positions while on the pole, then yes, that would be pole dancing. She didn’t do any of those behaviors. She dipped down one time, then did nothing with the pole except hang on while that cart was moving.

Now, if whoever did the choreography (because I doubt Miley came up with that herself) intended for her single move to emulate pole dancing, then that would be in very poor taste, but Miley’s guilt would only be following the choreography presented to her. And I wasn’t too crazy about the whole show-off-my-bra shirt, either. But are either of those worth crucifying a sixteen-year-old girl over? No!

Whether we like it or not, and as the mother of an seventeen-year-old daughter I DON’T like it, these teenagers today are an entirely different generation than we were. Would my parents have pulled me off a stage if I came out dressed like that? Yeah, they would have. Would I let my daughter dress that way when she was a minor? No, but I suspect she changed clothes after she left the house. But for teenagers today, this is considered acceptable behavior. They’re much more comfortable with being assertive and with their nascent sexuality than we ever were, and while we can try to mitigate it, the truth is that today’s teenagers become the architects of tomorrow’s acceptable behavior. By the way, how good a job DID we do? Were we free of scandalous behavior, or teen pregnancy, or STDs? The world is still dealing with the hatred of homo- and bisexuality that erupted in the last century; maybe today’s teenagers can rise above the prejudices that our parents imposed upon us and, in doing so, spare many teenagers from going through the pain and mental anguish that coming to terms with our sexuality meant for many of us back then.

When I see Miley dressed like she was for the Teen choice Awards, I generally take that opportunity to talk to my younger daughters about good taste in clothing and behavior. I also say a prayer for Miley and her parents, because raising a teenager or tweenager today is difficult and often painful; I imagine that actually BEING a teen or tween today is even harder. Take a moment to consider that before attacking someone else, please.

  6. Ok I think people sooo over reacted. So her bra was showing its part of the outfit. And that was so not pole dancing. I think people are to quick to judge. Miley is a great role model and I mean i would rather have her be my daughters role model then alot of other young actorsz and singers out there.
