The 58th Annual Miss Universe pageant was aired LIVE from Atlantis, Paradise Island, Bahamas on Sunday August 23 on NBC at 9 pm eastern.  See the new Miss Universe 2009 here.

Miss Universe 2008 Dayana Mendoza ended her reign and relinquished her crown to one of the 84 contestants from countries all over the globe.  Prior to her last big night in the spotlight, she graced the cover and pages of Maxim magazine’s September issue, on newsstands August 18.  We’ve included her photo with the gallery of the 2009 contestants below.

The swimsuit portion of the competition was held on August 9.  The gorgeous contestants have been ranked and only 15 of them will go on to compete for the Miss Universe 2009 title during the live television broadcast.  Our featured bikini beauty is Miss Mexico, 21-year-old Karla Carrillo.
