Ellie Greenwich Dead at 68
Songwriter Ellie Greenwich, noted for co-writing the 1960s hits “Be My Baby,” Baby, I Love You,” “Leader of the Pack,” “Chapel of Love,” and “Then He Kissed Me,” among others, died of a heart attack at age 68 in New York’s Roosevelt Hospital, where she was battling pneumonia.
In 1991, Greenwich was inducted into the Songwriters’ Hall of Fame. “Leader of the Pack,” a Broadway show based on her life, featuring songs she co-wrote, was nominated for Best Musical Tony in 1985.
