2016 Olympics Announcement: Chicago Eliminated in First Round (PHOTOS)

In an announcement that stunned the city of Chicago, the International Olympic Committee announced on Friday morning in Denmark that of the four hopefuls, the Windy City was the first to be eliminated from contention in early balloting.  The decision on who would win the 2016 Olympic hosting duties continued in Copenhagen with the elimination of Tokya and Madrid.

Heavy favorite Rio de Janeiro won the balloting and will host the 2016 Olympics–the first time the games will be held in South America.  The big event is scheduled for August 5-21, 2016, and will feature 26 sports and a total of 38 disciplines.   The 2016 Summer Paralympics will be held in the same host city and will be organized by the same committee.

The team presenting Chicago’s plan had several high profile people on hand to lend their support, including Oprah Winfrey, Michelle Obama and President Barack Obama.

The plan focused on clustering Olympic venues in parkland along the Lake Michigan shores but not everyone in Chicago favored the prospect of such an undertaking.  Public sentiment dipped to 47 percent, with many worried that taxpayers might end up footing the bill if the games didn’t reap the monetary rewards as expected.

  1. HAHAHAHA! Michelle declared she sat in her daddy’s wheelchair bound lap when she was 20 and watched Carl Lewis win? Another brazen, faulty memory liar thinking no one would fact check her statements?… And now he can get to work on solving our problems, finding ways to help Chicago become crime free again, helping our troops win the war on terrorism and free those innocents caught up in it, stop wishing for any socialist/nanny, when all of EUROPE is dumping .. that FAiled system for america, particularly sticking with the laws and rules of being a president, stop wasting money on fool ideas that will never work and brings profits to the evil and corrupt, dump his shadow goverment of liars, crooks and pedophiles leading him on a bad leader course; and earning his pay as The President., then he can actually brag he was a good and worthy president of America in history books.

  2. I can assure you that August 5th through 11th is WINTER time in Brazil. So, all the competitive emotional, financial and national pride hoopla aside, holding the SUMMER Olympics in a southern hemisphere country is nearly as naive as thinking that earth is flat.
On the bright side, the visitors who travel down there to see summer Olympics may have a chance to go skiing or snowboarding in the nearby Chili or Argentina.
That beats the hell out of a terribly hot and humid Chicago summer.
