Rumors have been flying that actor Morgan Freeman has had his hand amputated and is now wearing a prosthesis. The speculation has been fueled by recent photographs taken while the actor has been making the rounds promoting Invictus. The film project wrapped before he was injured in a horrific car crash last year.
On the night of August 3, 2008, Morgan and his passenger Demaris Meyer were seriously injured when his Nissan Maxima lost control on a highway in Ruleville, Mississippi. Freeman has since undergone several major surgeries to repair his shoulder, arm and elbow. The most serious operation was to correct severe nerve damage that has paralyzed his left hand.
In late January, Freeman told Access Hollywood, "I wound up with a lot of nerve damage in my arm, so the hand is still paralyzed. So until the nerves get down there...." , letting the rest of the response trail off.
Invictus, featuring Freeman as South African President Nelson Mandela, will be released in theaters on December 11, 2009 - view trailer below.
We've pulled together several recent photos that show the actor wearing a series of gloves to cover up the damage.
