My love affair with Michael Buble began about two years ago when I saw him perform at the Orpheum. When I heard that he was making his way back to the Twin Cities, I shamelessly begged people to get me tickets to the show. My begging worked! Best friend Claire got me tickets for my birthday!

I love Michael Buble because he is extremely original. He has his own sound, style and musically he is just really refreshing. When you sing mostly ballads, it can be very hard to put on an entertaining show, but it isn’t at all diffiuclt for this soulful crooner. MB literally glided across, up and down the stage. He was captivating.

Performing with an incredible band including piano, trombone, sax, bass, guitar, and chello, there was never a dull moment. It was very cool to watch Michael sit back and enjoy the music of his fellow band musicians, who were phenomenal.

Michael Buble sings songs that we have all heard a million times. Besides a few original hits, MB is primarily a cover artist — arguably one of the greatest of all times. In my humble opinion, you can hear a song over and over again, but it is a completely different experience when done by Buble.

I was terrified to see Michael at the Xcel because when I saw him at the Orpheum it was so intimate and amazing. I couldn’t fathom getting that same feeling surrounded by thousands of other people. I realize now that certain artists have a way of connecting with their audience no matter how big the venue. There was honestly not a bad seat in the house. Sure there were 13,000 people in attendance and I was so high up my head hurt, but I still felt like he was singing directly to me.

Besides the nonstop incredible music, the singer was funny, charismatic, and humble. He thanked the audience over and over again, expressed his love for performing, and added his two cents on the Tiger Woods scandal. He also had quite a few jokes about how many awards Americans have won at the Olympics. Canada, his home, has not been so lucky.

He spoke very highly of Minnesota stating, “This is my favorite city, you are like the girl I love…sometimes you’re cold but you are f***ing hot.” You can’t help but like him! He radiates positive energy and unlike other attractive singers whose music we love but who come off as jerks (John Mayer), Buble is also a nice guy.

My favorite moment of the show was when he busted out his own rendition of Michael Jackson hit “Billy Jean”. He told the audience, “Everyone compares me to Frank Sinatra, but I grew up on Mike.”

I had been having what was easily one of the worst weeks of my life but MB took me away from all the drama and for the hour and a half that he performed, it was just me and the music. It was obvious that he was enjoying himself, that he really loved what he was doing and the feeling was infectious. People cried, held hands and slow danced in the aisles. I felt the music, the lyrics, the band — it was incredible. I love love and his music made me feel good about being in love. After the show was over my face hurt from smiling and laughing so much.

Two years ago I declared Michael Buble’s concert the best I had ever experienced. Seeing him again live cemented that statement. I will continue to attend his performances every time he makes his way back to my city, because he is one of the best I have ever seen!

I’m Danni and I have a feeling my love affair with Michael Buble is just beginning.
