Former WCW and WWE wrestler Chris Kanyon was found dead Friday night in his Sunnyside, Queens, New York apartment at age 40. His death is believed to be suicide from an overdose of pills.
Kanyon wrestled in WCW from the late 90's to 2001, and then moved to the WWE when the company purchased the WCW. He retired from wrestling in February 2004, but continued to make headlines for his personal life.
In October 2004, Kanyon was arrested for "disorderly conduct and resisting arrest without violence" in Tampa, Florida after attempting to break up a fight. He was released that same day after fellow wrestler Altar Boy Luke provided a $750 cash bond. Kanyon publicly claimed he did nothing wrong, and the case was thrown out of court.
Kanyon spoke on several occasions about suffering from bipolar disorder and in 2006 he, along with Scott Levy and Michael Sanders, attempted to see WWE for cheating them out of health care and other benefits, but the case was dismissed.
Kanyon also claimed he was released by Vince McMahon because he was homosexual. He later said the incident was a publicity stunt, and claimed to be heterosexual, only to later claim he was actually homosexual.
