The funeral for Lena Horne was held on Friday at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in Manhattan. The 92-year-old singer and actress died Sunday at New York-Presbyterian Hospital — bio and additional photos here.
Thousands of fans gathered outside the church to catch a glimpse of her casket as it was taken to the church from the Frank E. Campbell Funeral Chapel prior to the service.
Hundreds of friends and family gathered inside the church to bid the legendary jazz singer and actress farewell. Broadway singer Audra McDonald stood over the casket and sang “Amazing Grace”.
Horne was remembered at her funeral as a shy girl from Brooklyn who broke through decades of racism to emerge as a world-class entertainer and social leader.
