Sean Lennon irked a good number of Beatles fans when he posted a ‘Twitpic’ of Lady Gaga playing the famous white Steinway piano of John Lennon in the New York City home of Yoko Ono.

The iconic instrument sits in a place of honor in the luxury high rise apartment of Yoko, a gift from the Beatles frontman to her.

Yoko’s son posted the photo on Twitter with the following caption: “With gaga at mom’s house, she’s belting on the white piano…”

Lennon’s followers were appalled. One ‘tweeted’: “WHY WOULD YOU LET LADY GAGA PLAY ON JOHN’S PIANO? I’m disappointed.”

Lennon replied: “Pianos are meant to be played. Why is everyone so uptight? What should we do, lock it away in a dusty room? So judgmental…”

In another terse exchange he said by way of explanation: “Firstly, he gave that piano to my mother for her birthday, it is hers. Secondly, he was not uptight the way you seem to be. Come on, lighten up…life’s too short, there are already enough real problems in the world….”

As a side note, Lady Gaga was classically trained on the instrument from the age of 4. She began giving concerts in elementary school and wrote her first keyboard ballad at 13. She continued her musical education through college, majoring in music at NYU.
