Actress Nicole Kidman visited Haiti last week as part of her commitment as Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Development Fund for Women. She is campaigning to keep the women of Haiti out of harms way.

Kidman is urging the officials in Haiti to better safeguard the women affected by the earthquake and to eradicate sexual attacks that are rampant among these women.

The star spent time in the temporary camps and learned how unsafe it is for females, young and old. “The lack of shelter and security makes them more vulnerable to violence, in particular sexual violence. Yet, I have also seen the determination and resilience of women and men in Haiti to rebuild their country.”

Nicole has been involved in helping the country since the disaster hit in January. Not only did she work the phone lines in actor George Clooney‘s telethon, but she and her husband, country singer Keith Urban, are also funding a school in the area.
