Model and television personality Tyra Banks apologized for a controversial promo that recently aired for the next cycle of America’s Next Top Model.
The short promo showed a panel of judges that included Tyra gushing over a super thin modeling contestant. She remarked: “You have the smallest waist in the world. Look at this waist. And how tall are you?” Ann replied: “I am 6-2.” Banks gushed: “There’s something about her that I like.”
The 20-second spot had people up-in-arms and elicited a speedy response from Tyra: “On behalf of the entire Top Model team, I am truly sorry for the style in which the Top Model promo clip was presented. Sometimes in the quest to have fun in a limited amount of time, especially in a 20-second promo, our overarching message can be misconstrued….I am and will always be committed to promoting healthy body image.”
The 15th cycle of ANTM will air on the CW network beginning September 8, 2010.
