Former Denver Broncos tight end Shannon Sharpe will take a leave of absence from his duties on the CBS sports show NFL Today amid allegations that he sexually assaulted his girlfriend Michele Bundy.

The Denver Post quoted the former NFL player: “I have decided to step aside from the NFL Today until this matter is resolved.”

Bundy filed for a temporary restraining order against Sharpe on September 11, 2010 in Atlanta’s Fulton County Superior Court – see documents here.

The case has been classified as “family violence”. In her petition, Bundy claims she was threatened and was forced to have sex. In addition, she alleges that Sharpe repeatedly calls her and threatens her life, and claims to have her under surveillance. A protection hearing is scheduled for Monday, September 20.

Sharpe, 42, is currently under consideration for induction into the Football Hall of Fame.
