Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone mugs for Swiss watchmaker …

Bernie Ecclestone, president and CEO of Formula One was mugged and robbed of his Hublot watch and other jewelry worth nearly $400,000 last month.

The aging executive was attacked and knocked unconscious by four muggers. He suffered a black eye as well as bruises and scratches on his face.

The 80-year-old contacted Jean-Claude Biver, Hublot’s chief executive, offering up a graphic photograph and a great idea for a new add campaign. His tagline idea: “See what people will do for a Hublot.”

The Swiss watchmaker has decided to go with the rather bizarre shock ad and will run it in newspapers for three days. The fine print at the bottom: “Hublot condemns all forms of violence and racism.”

Seriously — will this add entice you to purchase a Hublot? Some might even consider this approach a deterrent. Your thoughts?
