And then there were two …

If the American Idol judges got it right last night, the three remaining competitors were in a virtual dead head going into Thursday night’s elimination episode.

After each of three singing rounds, the judges voted for the best performer. All three judges agreed that Haley Reinhart captured Round One. Scotty McCreery beat out the women in Round Two according to Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson. The same pair of judges declared Lauren Alaina the winner of Round Three.

Many people think Scotty is a dead-ringer for Mad magazine mascot Alfred E. Neuman–and we agree. Check out our side-by-side photo comparison.

This year the contestants worked closely with Interscope Chairman Jimmy Lovine, a songwriter and producer, who was the in-house mentor. He and his crew of associated producers helped the contestants tailor their song choices and provided musical arrangements.
