Sports car test drive doesn’t sit well with authorities …

NASCAR driver Kyle Busch was issued a speeding ticket on Tuesday afternoon in Iredell County, North Carolina for doing 128 mph in a 45-mph zone.

The racing standout, currently ranked third in the Sprint Cup standings with two wins this season, was driving a yellow Lexus LFA sports car with his wife Samantha as his passenger.

As expected, Busch had something to say about the incident: “Today, I received a traffic citation in Iredell County. I was test-driving a new sports car and I got carried away. I went beyond what I should have been going on a public road. I apologize to the public, my fans, sponsors and race teams for my lack of judgement.”

The statement continued: “I take responsibility for my actions and I can assure you that something like this will never happen again. I thank the Iredell County Sheriff’s Department and all law enforcement for the hard work they do every day to protect the public and to enforce the laws in a fair and equitable manner.”

NASCAR spokesman Kerry Tharp said: “This is a matter Kyle will have to handle with authorities. Based on what we know right now, this would not impact his status as a NASCAR driver.”

Will authorities throw the book at Busch or will he receive celebrity justice? Joe Citizen would pay a major fine and lose driving privileges for a very long time. Seriously, 83 miles over the speed limit … who does that?

Busch was recently fined $25,000 and put on probation for a total of four races for arguing with Kevin Harvick in the pits at Darlington.
